There are existing problems of biofuel production.
Traditionally, biofuels are made from oil extracted from plants represented by beans, corn, and oilseed rapes, which would take up farmland to grow therefore conflicting with human's basic needs for food .
Another highly commercialized way of producing biofuels is to recycle animal oil, which is cheap but rather than pure .

SCROLL

Recent years have witnessed the advancement of another source for biofuel production, namely Microbes . Microbes represented by microalgae, yeast and mold are excellent resources for producing lipid .
Using microbes to produce biofuels can demonstrate significant advantages, namely high productivity, little room requirement, and no natural environment limitation.

SCROLL

Under this circumstance, we choose Chlamydomonas reinharditti as our chassis organism, which could not only stand on its own feet through photosynthesis but also grow rapidly.

By using transcriptome analysis and CRISPR/Cas9 system , we modify it into a lipid production targeted factory which can not only give out tons of triacylglycerol and fatty acids but also manage to realize such function in normal culture media instead of mostly used stress conditions like Nitrogen deprivation.
