Non-achievement can be realized without collaboration and help from each other. This year, our team is
made up of 4 PIs, 1 instructor, 2 student leaders, 13 student members, and 3 advisors, each of whom has
distinguished contributions to our project. Meanwhile, we received help from fellow researchers, fellow
iGEM teams, business companies, government bureaus and departments, etc. We couldn't have done so much
without close cooperation and generous assistance from everyone mentioned above.
Our PIs gave instructions and directed the design and construction of our project.
Zhang Yong
Professor Zhang is the primary PI of our team. Dedicated to research around plant genome engineering for
decades, he provided us with information and thoughts about how to design the project, when to do what,
and whom to look for help. He is such an important character in the whole process.
Tang Lixia
Professor Tang gave us suggestions around metabolism, enzyme research and modelling. She often offered us
guidance on how to analyze massive metabolic pathways and how to decide which gene to manipulate. Also,
she led us through wiki modifications and improvements.
Zheng Xuelian
Professor Zheng offered great assistance when it comes to the culture of chassis organism and experiment technique. She always made sure we are on the right path of experiments and provided advice on wiki and presentations.
She also helped us a lot in human practices such as card copyright application and etc.
Feng Juan
Professor Feng taught us how to use many laboratory equipments and offered much assistance on chemical
analysis methods for example how to get brighter fluorescent images and how to analyze lipid contents. She
also made sure of members' mental health and provided constant support.
Quan Ling
Quan helped the team leaders to coordinate the whole team and secured financial support for the project.
She also provided tons of assistance in human practices including designing the process, introducing us to
government departments, building connections with science propagation platforms and manpower support.
Tang Xu
Tang designed the standard CRISPR plasmid for us and taught us how to construct and examine plasmids.
Also, he provided us many tips on molecular biology experiments.
Hu Yuwei
Hu is one of the student leaders of UESTC_China in the 2021 iGEM competition. Without her, our team
couldn't become as united as we are now and we won't be able to get in track so soon. She always made sure
we understood the regulations and instructions of the whole competition and she gave much advice on how to
perfect our wiki and presentation.
Zhou Ying
Zhou is also a student leader of UESTC_China in 2021. Her capability in wet lab designs and organization
blew our minds. From an early stage, she taught us how to arrange lab work so that we could complete a
considerable amount of work. Whenever we have questions about lab management, we always come to her for
help.
School
Special thanks to the University of Electronic Science and Technology (UESTC), UESTC Academic Affairs
Office, School of Life Science and Technology, and Education Development Foundation of UESTC for all the
support.
Sponsors
Special thanks to 23mofang and Snapgene for their kind sponsorship. Without their donations and software
support, we would not have achieved so much.
Cooperation in science education
Special thanks to UESTC National Science Park, Sichuan Science and Technology Museum, Chengdu Ecological
Environment Bureau especially the Communication and Education Centre, and Chengdu Environmental Volunteer
Services Association for their assistance and support in our science education, communication and
propagation work. Also, thanks to Tongxinzhiyuan social practice team of UESTC for the support in
education events.
Cooperation in survey and research
Special thanks to the following scholars for their generous response to our survey on research status,
industry prospects and development directions.
Professor Zhang Zhaohan from the Department of Ecology and Environment, Harbin Institute of
Technology;
Advanced Engineer Ma Nian, from T. Y. Lin International;
Shi Dongshen, from Xuzhou Yuanheng Renewable Energy Development Corporation;
Pro. Liu Tianzhong from the key laboratory of bio-fuels in the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
And Qing Dao FuRuiSi Biodiesel Enterprise.
Thank you!
Cooperation in Biology Lab work
Special thanks to Jigu Gene for completing 9 gRNAs inserted CRISPR plasmids for us, and Vazyme Biotech for
kindly offering us plant DNA extraction kits to test its function on algae.
All the members are divided into 5 groups: Managing group, Bio department, Human practices group, Wiki and
design group, and Modelling group.
Managing group
Luo Yuning: Luo is the primary student leader. She is responsible in coordinating the whole progress of
the team and checking iGEM official website's updates to make sure the team follow every regulation and
hand in all the materials on time. She is also in charge of financial management.
Wang Xingjie: Wang is the co-leader of the team and the manager of the bio department. He is mainly in
charge of lab management, experiments arrangement, and communication with PIs and advisors.
Bio department
Wang Xingjie: As the manager of the department, Wang assigns experiments to specific members, arranges
meetings, manages the whole lab including replenishing laboratory consumables and reagents and repairing
laboratory equipment, and builds connections with other labs in the School of Life Science and Technology
of UESTC. He also designs and constructs CRISPR/Cas9 plasmids with Zhang Hang. And he organizes the whole
department to record lab work and finish the notebook.
Feng Ying: Feng is specialized in the electronic transformation and pressure cultivation of algae. Her
work greatly supports our genome engineering process. She also concludes the protocol of lipid extraction
