Collaboration

Overview

To us, iGEM is not only a competition but also an opportunity to communicate, cooperate and learn with other iGEMers. This year,NWU-CHINA-A actively communicated with several teams to help solve the problems of each other and build a good relationship with these teams.

The 4th Northwestern China iGEM Meetup

Our team hosted Northwestern China iGEM Meetup in July. We invited them and received an enthusiastic response. This was our first official meeting.

Joint activities

During the free discussion at the Northwestern China iGEM Meetup, we discussed with NPU-CHINA that we could host some off-line activities related to synthetic biology and iGEM in both schools because of our geographical advantage. In September, we hosted hyperspace-time post office  and charity sale with NPU-CHINA, XJTU-China. You can click there to know more about this. These two activities stimulated students ' interest in synthetic biology and iGEM, and led the competition to a broader platform.

Our contribution for northwestern of China

This year our team proposed to supplement the northwestern part library, which is a gene library jointly constructed by iGEMers from Shaanxi. NPU-CHINA was willing to join in this work. You can click there to know more about this.

The 4th Northwestern China iGEM Meetup

LZU-CHINA attended the 3rd Northwestern China iGEM Meetup hosted by us last year, and we still invited them this year. They were  also very glad  to receive our invitation and looked forward to further cooperation with us.

The GUT ALLIANCE

After the 4th Northwestern China iGEM Meetup, we learned that LZU-CHINA 's project this year was also related to the intestine, so we launched a heated discussion online. Although we were in two places, but this did not affect our enthusiasm. LZU-CHINA proposed that we could called together several teams who did intestinal related aspects this year to set up an organization to facilitate our communication and brainstorming to solve problems. So NWU-CHINA-A established the GUT ALLIANCE , and LZU-CHINA became one of them. You can click You can click there to know more about this.

Modeling Exchange Conference

Due to the lack of students who we re good at mathematical models in our team this year, our modeling had always been very weak. When we learned that LZU-CHINA had a digital module majoring in modeling, we asked them for help. On August 8, we held an online exchange meeting with members of the LZU-CHINA mathematical modeling group.

According to the project content, we explained the modeling direction to the two modeling students of LZU-CHINA and discussed the feasibility of modeling.LZU-CHINA ’s  students suggested that we should look for a large number of relevant literature, reference modeling method. They also shared their references and a book on mathematical modeling - An introduction to systems biology. This helped us a lot in modeling.

iGEM Hangzhou Low Carbon Museum

In August, LZU-CHINA invited us to participate in the iGEM triple team ( LZU-CHINA, SZ-SHD, WS _ HZBIOX ) held a science popularization activity for children in Hangzhou Low Carbon Science and Technology Museum. In this special project, we gave a brief description of synthetic biology and our project this year to children , and gained a good response. You can click there to know more about this.

Zhu Junjie, the captain of HS _ China this year, is the captain of our team in 2019 and the advisor of our team in 2020 / 2021.He has made great contributions to the growth of our team. Knowing that he was the captain of HS _ China this year, we looked forward to working together at the beginning of the project.

First encounter

In the 4th Northwestern China iGEM Meetup, we invited Zhu Junjie as a guest to share his experience and suggestions. At the meet up, he learned that our project was also related to the intestine, and the team he led this year, HS _ China, mainly used intestinal flora to treat lactose intolerance. So he suggested that we could call for several teams this year to do intestinal related aspects to set up an organization. So NWU-CHINA-A established the GUT ALLIANCE , and HS _ China became one of them.

The GUT ALLIANCE

After the establishment of the GUT ALLIANCE , in order to popularize intestinal knowledge to the public and help them establish the concept of protecting intestinal health. NWU-CHINA-A, as the organizer, together with HS_china, LZU-CHINA, WS-HZBIOX and NEU-CHINA, held a popular science lecture on intestinal knowledge. You can click there to know more about this.

Suicide switch

Although our chassis for this year 's project was probiotic, we still considered the issue of bacterial leaks and came up with the idea of using a suicide switch. Initially we wanted to use CRISPR-Cas9 technology to design a blue-light-activated suicide switch, but because we were going to design a portable intestinal microbleeds detector this year, this suicide switch would not be suitable. In the exchange with HS _ China, they suggested that we opt for another easy suicide switch, the knockout of the dapA gene fragment from the EcN chromosome. You can click there to know more about this.

Intestinal iGEMers Service Platform

During CCiC, we learned that HZAU-China 's project this year was also related to probiotics, so we invited them after we established the GUT ALLIANCE. During this period, HZAU-China and NWU-CHINA-A teamed up with other teams to set up the intestinal iGEMers service platform, which serves as a medium for collecting problems in project experiments and facilitates the iGEM teams doing intestinal-related projects this year and in the future to solve problems. You can click there to know more about this.

Probiotics national policy

In the process of communicating with HZAU-China, they suggested that we check the national laws and regulations related to probiotics, so that the whole project could take into account more comprehensive issues. You can click there to know more about this.

SZPT-CHINA

SZPT-CHINA is our partner for many years, and we maintain a close cooperative relationship every year. This year, we h ad  deep cooperation in experiment, human practice, education and so on. You can click here for more information about our collaboration .

XJTU-China

Because we were  the first two teams to participate in iGEM in Shaanxi, China, the annual in-depth cooperation was  the tradition followed by each of our teams. In July 2022, we hosted the 4th Northwestern China iGEM Meetup .It was our first encounter. Since the meetup , we began to communicate frequently. We helped them conceive the event, they also gave us expression vectors, o ur two teams also exchanged  each other this year 's souvenirs. You can click there for more information about our collaboration.

It was encouragement and help between us that allowed us to make great progress.Thanksvery much to every team.
