Success lies in cooperation, and cooperation brings future. To better learn from others, we have established cooperation with NWU-CHINA-A, BNUZH-China, HBUT-China, NEFU_China, and CUHKSZ. Through the communication and cooperation with these iGEM teams, we have gained a lot, grown a lot, and solved some specific problems in the process of project promotion.
Last year, our team has cooperated with NWU-CHINA-A. Based on our common interests and friendly cooperation, we continue to cooperate with NWU-CHINA-A this year. So far, we have conducted three joint presentations with their team, namely the 2022 China iGEM Online Meetup on July 16th, the 4th Northwestern China iGEM Meetup hosted by them on July 23rd, and the one we hosted on August 6th with nearly 300 participants. We also carried out extensive and in-depth collaborations on HP and experiments. In terms of HP, NWU-CHINA-A recommended us an expert in pharmacogenomics, namely Professor Penggao Dai of Northwest University, and introduced us the Shaanxi Lifegen CO. ,Ltd., On August 10th this year, we have conducted an online interview with this company and learned a lot in the process. In terms of experiments, we hold regular meetings every week to discuss and supervise each other, and jointly solve the difficulties and bottlenecks encountered in our projects.
When communicating with BNUZH-China, we shared our projects' progress with each other and solved problems together. For example, when they could not contact the experts, we suggested them to go to the local hospital to register and interview the experts as patients. All the suggestions are based on our own practice and experience last year and have helped them solve many practical difficulties. On June 3rd this year, we participated in the Southern China Regional Meeting with BNUZH-China. On August 6th, we also invited BNUZH-China to participate in an online joint presentation -- "Into Synthetic Biology" hosted by us to jointly introduce related projects.
Since the HBUT-China bad been interrupted for two years before, we provided them with some experience during the coperation. For example, we suggested that they should establish 2-3 partnerships, deepen and diversify the HP part, and the HP members should be more familiar with the experiment in order to know better about the whole project. Together we discussed plans for the future and compiled nearly five thousand biology-related words. On August 6th, HBUT-China also participated the online joint seminar "Into Synthetic Biology" hosted by us. In addition to the online meeting, we have also established a WeChat group to keep in touch and facgilitate communication at any time..
In the process of cooperation with NEFU_China, we conducted in-depth discussions on the experimental aspect. At the online joint presentation on August 6th, we introduced our respective projects and learned a lot of valuable experience from their project.
On August 3rd, we went to Guangzhou Yakult Company with CUHKSZ to conduct research. Through the investigation, we jointly learned the relevant knowledge of the production, preservation and transportation of live bacterial products. We also learned more about the projects of the other team and some related information about synthetic biology through exchanges with each other.
After we visited the Guangzhou Yakult Company, we also had an online meeting with CUHKSZ to learn from each other on September 3th. We first watched our promotion video, presented our project and shared our views and questions respectively. Then, we discussed about blue light lysis system and freeze-dried powder which two parts of interest to CUHKSZ. We also shared with them what we learned from other teams about Modeling.
We were invited by SZU-China to participate in 2022 iGEM Southern China Regional Meeting and communicated with various teams. We came to the meeting with the purpose of learning. In the process of communication, we found advantages to learn from each team, we also found some problems of our projects. For example, others can't understand our project clearly when we presenting our project. So we improve our presentation and the linguistic expression of project. In this meeting, we collaborated with BNUZH-China.
During the meeting, experts asked a lot of good questions, such as:" Glutathione had been wildly used, where is your innovation?" "Why don't you use glutathione freeze-dried powder?" and so on. We also adjusted the idea of the project around the questions asked by the experts, which gaave us many guidance. .
On July 8th and 9th , we participated in the first SynBio Challenges. The team member from 2021 presented the 2021 project, and the team members from 2022 participated and assisted. In this challenge show, our team won a silver medal.
In this challenge, the members of 2022 learned a lot from last year's members, including how to be calm when doing oral defense and how to be confident when doing the presentation. We watched, we learned.
On July 17th, we received invitations from GXU-China, Jilin_China2022, Jiangnan_China and NPU_CHINA to attend the "2022 iGEM Online Meetup". In this meeting, we recognized NEFU_China and became a partnership with this team.
On July 23th, we were invited by NWU-CHINA-A to participate in the 4th Northwestern China iGEM Meetup hosted by them. In the meeting, we further understand the projects of other teams and learn their highlights. And learnt a lot from the communication with other teams during the meeting. For example, we took advice from other teams to make our background more academic and professional. In the process of communication, some teams were very interested in the education of kindergarten, so we gave them some suggestions.
On August 3rd, we were invited by Yakult company to visit and study in their factory in Guangzhou. In order to let more people know about synthetic biology, not only members of our team and CUHKSZ, but also our friends were invited to visit with us. SZPT-CHINA and CUHKSZ presented their projects respectively and communicated with each other about their projects.
The product of Yakult contain live bacteria, and our project is presented in the form of live bacteria. Therefore, we went to the Yakult factory in Guangzhou with the purpose of learning some knowledge. During the visit, the staff of Yakult introduced the origin and development process of Yakult to us. They also led us to watch the production process of Yakult products. During the visit, we didn't take photos because of the technical secrets involved.
On August 6th, after the lecture "Step in Synthetic Biology", we held a meeting among five teams (SZPT-China, NWU-CHINA-A, HBUT-China, BNUZH-China, NEFU_China). In the meeting, each team explained their own project and give opinions about the projects to each other. For example, we shared the experience after Yakult's visit with NWU-CHINA-A. Some probiotics will lyse after they pass gastric acid, and we suggested them to simulate the environment of gastric acid to conduct experiments. NEFU_China shared the phenomenon that the high-yielding antioxidant strains were degraded by hydrogen peroxide stress. This may also be a problem that we will meet in the GshF expression and GSH production module.
The Conference of China iGEMer Community (CCiC) started on August 18th. In the conference, we found that our experiment progress is slower than that of other teams. Judges also put forward some suggestions about HP: They believed that HP should be integrated into the project. And in the part of report and interview, we should report what we communicated, learned and influenced in detail. Judge also said that a good education needs to be differentiated, not only with photos, but also with videos of activities. So we made some improvements on HP.
On July 8th, we received invitations from HBUT-China to attend the "iGEM Online Meeting". In this meeting, we found that their production also related to antioxidants, which promoted the relationship between us.
