Gut Alliance
As
we all know, the intestines are an important digestive organ of the human body. Most of the
nutrients needed by the human body are digested and absorbed by the intestines, which provides
beneficial substances for the human body and maintaining the vitality of human life. Combined
with the previous questionnaire survey, we also find that most of the public does not have
enough awareness of gut health. So popular intestinal health is crucial. During the Northwest
Exchange Conference, we were fortunate to find a lot of teams related to the intestinal aspect.
After understanding it, we found that there were some bottlenecks in the communication between
the teams. So we established the iGEM China Gut Alliance under our organization, aiming to focus
on the public's intestinal health from the perspective of college students and high school
students, provide help for more iGEM teams in the intestinal area and giving full play to our
value.
The
Gut Alliance
At
present, through unremitting efforts, our alliance members include NWU-CHINA-A, HS_China,
HZAU-China, LZU-CHINA, LZU-HS-PRO-A, NEU_CHINA, WS_HZBIOX, NJMU-China, UCAS-China, a total of
nine teams.

The cooperation with Beijing Rexinchang Biotechnology Research Institute Co., Ltd.
At
the beginning of the establishment of the alliance, Mr. Lan, the president of Beijing Rexinchang
Biotechnology Research Institute Co., Ltd. , expressed his support for our Gut
Alliance by recording a video, and he also invited us to participate in the "Intestinal Science
and Art" popular science illustration tour activity initiated by his Institute. We were very
honored to participate in this activity.
In
September, we held a two-day exhibition of paintings at Northwestern University's Taibai Campus.
It attracted many people to our exhibition, who can scan the QR code attached to the painting to
learn more about it. In addition, we also gave them a lecture and got good feedback.
We
hope that through this exhibition, more and more people will pay attention to intestinal health
problems, so that our alliance can play a greater value.

Intestinal
iGEMers service platform
In
the process of communicating with HZAU-China, a member of the Gut Alliance, we found that there
were problems between many teams that could not communicate and solve in a timely manner, so we
germinated the idea of establishing an intestinal iGEMers service platform.
This
was built by the platform UCAS-China, when any team of the gut project encounters experimental
or other difficulties, it can ask for help through such a platform, and when other teams see it,
they can help solve it. For example, through such a platform, we learned that HZAU-China has the
problem of "the effect of theophylline on the intestine" and "what kind of microorganisms
produce short-chain fatty acids", and we tried to help solve its problems.
At
the same time, we also had some experimental questions, such as "How to avoid high mutation
rates after digestion?" and "What causes the disappearance of electrophoresis bands?"
"HZAU-China helped us with our answers and was a great help to our project. (Click here for more

Future
outlook
In
China, QQ is one of our most commonly used social media. So we used QQ to establish a group chat
and set up iGEM China intestinal alliance organization. We will hold various activities on
intestinal health through group chat to pass on more intestinal knowledge to the public and
better protect intestinal health! Now our alliance is still gradually expanding, and more teams
are welcome to join. In the future, our alliance will continue to go to schools to publicize
intestinal knowledge at different grade levels, produce brochures and comic books, use
easy-to-understand language to popularize intestinal knowledge, and also push out intestinal
science on the WeChat public account, hoping to make the public pay more attention to intestinal
health. In addition, our alliance will continue to serve the iGEM teams that do intestinal
related aspects every year, providing a platform for exchange and cooperation, and the iGEMers
of our alliance can also provide valuable experience for teams interested in doing intestinal
research in the future.
