The dream of a more sustainable community

Our project is focused on addressing the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) that our society is currently considering. Our project meets some of these goals.

SDG 2. Zero hunger. StarchSTEM was created as a project to reuse vegetable waste from agricultural activities in order to obtain starch by means of a bacterial system. Our starch can be used as a compound to make feed for livestock and fish farms, which would help to feed more livestock and avoid the use of food that could supply populations.

SDG 7 and 13. Affordable and clean energy. Today there is a global energy problem. Our project, within this problem, proposes that less polluting biofuels can be generated from starch. In addition to the ecological origin of our energy, emissions of polluting gasses would be reduced by not using vegetable waste as a material to generate electricity, which would otherwise be burned.

SDGs 8 and 11. If our project could be taken to industry it would bring economic growth to our region, making it a much more sustainable community.
