Inclusivity

Science is for everyone

For years, the role of women in science has been silenced and, on many occasions, they have been prevented from participating in science just because of their gender. Of the 17 students that make up our team, 11 are women, which demonstrates the interest and presence of women in research.

This has been achieved thanks to many women researchers who have fought for the inclusiveness of women in science long before us and have opened our way, being role models for us. Therefore, we made a collaboration with UK Leuven in which we talked about Francisca Fernandez, professor and pioneer researcher in molecular biology in Spain.

In addition, from the first moment we have included in the team anyone who wants to participate. For this reason our team is composed of students with no research experience, from first year undergraduates to students who are finishing their degree.

The new generations are more accessible through social networks, they are connected to the world and information through them. But this leaves behind many other generations who have not been able to adapt to these media, so to bring synthetic biology and what is iGEM to all the houses of our region we explained our project in a documentary of the Andalusian channel Canal Sur Television as well as an act of presentation of our project to various local media.
