The experiments of our project were conducted in the standard Level 1 microbiology lab of the Learning Planet Institute (prev. CRI) facilities.

We conducted our experiments on two bacterial organisms: Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis. We used common synthetic biology cloning techniques to engineer our bacteria. We did not use any hazardous chemicals.

The project risks that we identified were environmental-hazard if our engineered organisms were to accidently be released outside the lab and dual-hazard if the knowledge we created is used on dangerous autonomous machines.

All the members of our team received safety training before starting any experiments from the lab managers in our institutions. All hardware creation was done in the Makerlab under the supervision of the Makerlab safety staff.
