Zek ra_ذكرى means Memory in Arabic, every memory matters to us.
When you lose memory, you lose a part of your life. Can you imagine
people suffering from losing their lives, forgetting their beloved ones,
and even their dreams ?
Around 55 million people suffer from dementia worldwide. Alzheimer’s is the most common type of dementia. It's the 7 th cause of death worldwide, according to WHO. Here in our country Egypt, we have approximately 1% of Alzheimer's patients around the world, according to Alzheimer's Society Egypt.
Our project Zekra introduces an innovative switchable proteolytic system, a circuit whose keys are not constructed from genes but composed of proteins, aims for the degradation of tau and amyloid beta aggregations, that are considered the main cause of AD.
We developed two systems for protein degradation, the snitch system and the plug sink system. Besides, Those systems are designed to be universal proteolytic switchable systems able to degrade any protein by only assembling the appropriate binding peptides with linkers.
We decided to highlight the group who was responsible for this awareness campaign by creating a whole sub-team for them called the creative team. to know more about the project and teams.
