Overview
Designing Parts to Address Food and Plastic Waste
Food waste is becoming an ever growing and prominent global problem. Hence, the work Cellucoat has done using synthetic biology is critical to tackle the food waste issue. We have designed 9 different parts; 4 of which add the preservation component of our bacterial cellulose (BC) fruit packaging, and the other 5 which serve to alter the mechanical properties of our BC fruit packaging. The development of these multifaceted parts we are able to help future iGEM teams in making an impact by using synthetic biology.
Cellucoat’s parts collection is split into 2 categories; parts made to give our fruit packaging preservative properties and parts made to alter the mechanical strength. Our NisQ collection aid us in purifying nisin using different solubility tags as well as affinity tags such as His-tags or GST-tags. The diverse PHB parts in Cellucoat’s PHB collection contain different ribosome binding sites (RBS) with differing strength in order to increase the production of our chosen protein.
