Every day we come to the lab, the first thing we see when we walk to our desks are the army of microbes!
One of our first days in the lab, we had lab trainings so that we were more confident and familiar with the lab procedures and protocols. Here were Jess and Jasmin making scratch plates for colony PCR.
The fuGFP-CBD team (Donovan, Jackie, and Jasmin) had some fun running SDS-PAGE gels every day in the lab, we had a motto 'another day, another gel!'.
The nanobody surface display team (Jess and Sylvie) spent some time looking at some plates in the dark under UV light.
We decided to do something fun on a patch plate writing some short phrases, like 'I WILL SLEEP SOON!'.
With our advisor Mark's collection of colorful bacteria, the artistic possibilities are endless! Here you can see a beautiful rendition of a coral reef on charcoal agar, and of the mythical creature allocamelus on LB.

Vortexing has always been one of Jess's favourite activities. It never fails to bring a smile to her face.
