Overview

The Sydney Australia 2022 iGEM team is immensely grateful for all the support and advice given, as well as all the opportunities provided to us during our iGEM journey. We are very proud that we have accomplished so much in this short amount of time with the help of all the wonderful people around us and professionals who are working in the field, and we would like to dedicate this page to acknowledge their dedication and guidance.


Our supervisor

We would like to extend our most heartfelt thanks and gratitude to our supervisor Associate Professor Nick Coleman for all your guidance, support and encouragement throughout our iGEM journey. We thank you for your enthusiasm and words of kindness, making these few months more enjoyable and less stressful. You have been very generous of your time and keen to hear our progress, providing us feedback on all what we have done. Thank you again for giving us this amazing experience and opportunity!


Our advisors

A massive thank you to Mark Somerville, iGEM alumni and Coleman lab research associate, who have come up with this project idea. Thank you for providing us training in the early days and being our go-to person whenever we have any issues and questions on our experiments. You have always provided us valuable advice and suggestions on what our next steps are, as well as helped us troubleshoot when things go wrong. We can’t be more grateful to have you as our advisor and mentor!

A huge thanks to Claudia Moratti, iGEM alumni and PhD student at Coleman lab, for contributing to a lot of our team logistics and guiding us on achieving all our medal criteria. You have always given us so much positivity, help, and encouragement along the way.


Wet lab acknowledgement

We would like to extend a big thanks to the Coleman lab research team. We are very grateful to Brodie Gillieatt, Nick Yang, and Amos Anderson for helping us find our feet in the lab and different lab operations, making more LB broths when we use more than we make, and answering our random questions. Thank you for all the help and advice and accompaniment during our lab time.

Thank you to Dr Julie Dechorgnat and Shelly Lien, Lab Manager and Technical Officer of Life, Earth and Environmental Sciences building Level 6, for providing us induction to the lab, training to the use of centrifuges and GelDoc system, as well as taking care all of the general lab operations, the lab would not run successfully without your help.


The University of Sydney

Thank you to the University of Sydney for recognizing iGEM as a unit of study and providing us resources to support the administration of our project. This has allowed us to devote more time to our project and conduct our experiments.


Human Practices Acknowledgement

Thank you Dr Clare Skinner, a specialist emergency physician, for sharing your thoughts and insights on the use of at-home testing in Australia during COVID-19 from a healthcare/public health perspective.

Thank you Dr Maureen O’Malley, an Associate Professor in the School of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Sydney, for meeting with us and sharing your critiques and perspectives on our project.


Outreach and Engagement

Thank you Dr Caitlin Fisher, School Programs Officer of the University of Sydney, for providing us outreach opportunity to Indigenous Year 12 students as a part of Tahgara Winter Program.

Thank you Shang Yu Shueh for giving us an outreach opportunity during Welcome Week at the University of Sydney.

Thank you Dr Lucie Semenec, Deputy Director of the Joint Academic Microbiology Seminars, and Belinda Fabian, Project Officer of ARC Centre of Excellence in Synthetic Biology, for organizing the activity at the Australian Museum and having us to volunteer for the National Science Week.



Team contributions

Sylvie Nolf was the team leader. She contributed to most parts of the nanobody surface display wet lab project. She organized and lead most of the team's weekly meetings. She was also involved in different outreach activities.

Jessica Zhang was the head of outreach and engagement. She was involved in organizing most of the outreach activities, and collaborations with other iGEM teams and. She did extensive lab work and was involved in every part of the nanobody surface display wet lab project. She also designed the team logo and managed the team's Twitter account.

Lukian Adams was the head of modeling. He did all of the modelling in the project. He was a part of the nanobody surface display wet lab team and helped out with the different lab procedures and statistical data analysis. He was also in charge of running different outreach activities, as well as designing and editing the team promotional video.

Kiran Muthukrishnan was the head of web design. He worked behind the scenes and coded for the wiki. He was involved in the nanobody surface display wet lab project and did the DNA shuffling of nanobody constructs.

Donovan Wu was involved in the fuGFP-CBD fusion wet lab project. He did an extensive amount of lab work and was responsible for all parts of the fusion wet lab project.

Jackie Yau was a part of the fuGFP-CBD fusion wet lab team, she worked in the lab and processed the team’s lab data. She also contributed to the wiki coding and design at the later period of the project.

Jasmin Li was involved in the fuGFP-CBD fusion wet lab project, she helped work in the lab and update the team’s lab notebook. She was also in charge of organizing different outreach activities.

Kawana Crowe contributed to a big part of the education and outreach activities. She was a part of the nanobody surface display wet lab team. She also designed the team merch.

Oliver Nicholls was involved in the fuGFP-CBD fusion wet lab project. He provided help in different lab operations. He also contributed to different outreach activities and was in charge of designing the team promotional video.
