А bacterium Ideonella sakaiensis is able to use plastic as its major energy and carbon source. It’s done thanks to two enzymes (PETase and MHETase), which convert PET efficiently into its two environmentally benign monomers. We take the genes that synthesize these enzymes and insert them into Pseudomonas aeroginosa bacterium. Due to the fact that P.aeroginosa survives in harsh environmental conditions, it is able to adapt to dramatic temperature changes in Kazakhstan. Plastikaieinsis will help to solve the problem of plastic contamination in our country.
