1. Participate in social inline discussion sessions

Through participating knowledge session on Bio-based polymer materialsSynthetic biology creationon June 19th, we gathered information of latest development in Synthetic Biology from guest speakers.

Through participating in The 9th National Symposium on Microbial Genetics held by Anhui University on August 20th, we gathered information from various experts about the features and implementations of microorganisms.

2. Participate in Conference of China IGEMer Community

In August, we watched the whole process of streaming Conference of China IGEMer Community 2022 through social platforms. Teams from Chinese universities and scientific centers gathered together to share their innovations and reflections on their projects. Learning from the lecture by the team of Southern University of Science and Technology at the CCiC conference, we gathered information about the production process of Imperial Purple biological dye, obtaining inspiration for our project of synthetic indigo dyes.

Learning from the lecture of ShanghaiTech University, we acquired information about Cell-Free Synthetic Biology, which offered us inspiration in our experiment design and model creation.

3. Participated in other teams’ lectures

On June 26th, we attended “G20 IGEM China Conference” held by SHSBNU_China and iBowu-China, building deep bond with IGEM teams and foundation for future collaboration.

On July 23th, we attended the 4th northwestern China iGem Meetup held by NWU-CHINA-A, learning about regional teams’ progress on their projects.

On August 6th, we attended the lecture held by SZPT-CHINA,HBUT-China,BNUZH-China,NEFU Chinaand NWU-CHINA-A. We gathered various opinions from other teams about synthetic Biology.

4. Online Meeting with NJMU

On September 24, 2022, we participatedinan online discussion on Biosafety with NJMU-China, exchanging ideas about each other’s projects and debating on the moral value of syntheticBiology. During the campaign, we presentedthe strategies and sources of our experiments, learning a lot from each other.By discussing whether synthetic biology products should be considered as life or machine, we deepened our understanding in the meaning of nature. Through this campaign, we improved the public understanding of the significance of our project to the environment.Besides, by listening to other teams’ presentations, we also gained inspirations in the humane aspect of Biology.

5. Participate in communication session with fellow teams

On September 29th , 2022, we conducted communication session, Nanjing High School IGEMer Meetup, with Worldshaper_Nanjing, Worldshaper_NJBIOX and Nanjing_NFLS. We shared information about each other’s projects and exchanged our reflections on them. We learned a lot about biological degradation from Nanjing_NFLS, aerobic growth from Worldshaper_Nanjing and biological fuel from Worldshaper_NJBIOX. More importantly, we gained inspiration in presenting our project more impactfully.

6. Initiate online discussion session

On September 30th, we initiated an in-depth online communication with two university teams, SCUT-China and Nanjing-China. We invited two experts from university and institute for instructions. In the meeting, we exchanged our inspiration, process of research and results of the cooperative experiment. We learned about silk knowledge from SCUT-China and biological fuel batteries from Nanjing-China. Both of the experts offered their suggestions after each team’s presentation. We learned a lot more about definition and structure of molecules of different dyes as well as methods to increase the visual effects of our presentation. Eventually, as the three of the teams all based experiments and research on synthetic Biology, we held a discussion session on the influence of synthetic Biology on our life. We gained broader view and greater expectation of the implementation of synthetic Biology in the future from two university teams and two experts. At the end of the meeting, our host Jiawei Yan carried out the closing, and the inspirations gained were appropriately described.

7. Co-hold information session in local community

On October 5th, we held an information session together with Nanjing_NFLS, Worldshaper_Nanjing, Worldshaper_NJBIO and Nanjing_China in Lanyuan, Xuanwu District, Nanjing. We introduced knowledge about synthetic Biology, the implementation of synthetic Biology in environment protection, implementation of synthetic Biology in fermentation and future prospects of synthetic biology in the market. By introducing synthetic Biology knowledge to the public, we aim at disseminating the importance of it to our daily life, including health, agriculture, food and material, as well as the awareness of environmental protection.
