The Partnership was established : 4.30
This year, Li Tianhong, who has rich experience in the iGEM competition, also served as the mentor of HainanU-China and guided JLU-China as a advisor. Under the recommendation of Tianhong, Huang Shuo, captain of HainanU-China, got acquainted with Wang Xu, captain of JLU-China. After having a basic understanding of their respective team structure and direction, the two teams conceived the idea of cooperation with human practice. In the following cooperation relationship, the two teams continued to have in-depth exchanges and gradually established an all-round partnership.
On April 30th, the JLU_China and Hainan_U online party met for the first time. Through this gathering, we got a preliminary understanding of each other's team and project content, and established a partnership on May 16th. We have laid the foundation for further cooperation in the future.
Began joint journal production : 5.31
In the early days of the team, we established a good partnership with Hainan University and launched a long-term communication plan.
After that, we held a joint press release every two weeks, focusing on the cooperation between the two teams in all aspects. The specific direction is: experiment part, HP part, looking for an instructor and so on.
As two iGEM newcomers, we had a lot of problems with new teams in the early days. We believe that many problems are in common, so we recorded many basic problems encountered in the process of team formation and competition, and gave our solutions, and compiled this experience manual, to provide reference and help for the later participating teams.
Began conduct experiment : Early June
In terms of the experiment, we designed and discussed the lethal system (Lethal system) together with Hainan University and Xiamen University. We discussed the lethal gene part together with Hainan University and Xiamen University. The Jilin University team designed a blue light and red light combined with a plasmid that can cause death. The Xiamen University team provided the lethal gene, and the Hainan University team gave blue light irradiation to express the lethal blra protein. In conclusion, with the cooperation and help of the three teams, we completed the experiments of blue light lethal gene.
HAINAN-U helps us with wet experiments, and JLU-CHINA helps each other with dry experiments (predicting DNA and RNA unwinding temperatures under different conditions and base mismatches). In addition, Jilin University has also done DNA unwinding temperature modeling work and death verification other work for Hainan University.
Cooperative lethal system experiment with Hainan University : Early Aug
Our cooperation with the experimental part of Haida began on August 1st. During the half-month period from August 1st to August 15th, we had detailed discussions on the experimental content every two days. The expression conditions, culture methods and experimental steps of toxic proteins were all reflected in the meeting. Hainan U will use PCR to amplify the toxic protein gene, and verify the toxic protein expression through transformation, expansion, protein electrolysis and other processes. In mid-August, we sent plasmids with toxic protein genes to Hainan University.
5.23 : Discussed the topic selection and other topics
The consensus reached by the two teams in this online meeting is that: after the two teams set up their respective teams, the two teams will continue to enrich the members of their respective teams, fully investigate, actively select topics, and determine the themes of their respective entries as soon as possible. At the same time, our two teams plan to establish a long-term communication mechanism, and the two teams will also regularly launch the joint press and push the column to introduce the progress of communication between the two teams.
Late May : HP group cooperated
On the Human Practices part, during this year, we helped each other and improve our human practices. In the continuous progress of the project, in order to expand the influence of the two teams, we carried out the cooperation on wechat public account tweets, and continuously integrated the tweets into the final form a manual, contributing to the popularization of synthetic biology, and let more people know about this relatively new research field. In addition, both teams have opened whitelists so as to invite other teams to share experiences or leave simple comments for the manual. In this process, HAINAN-U has made a lot of sample contributions to our project questionnaire survey, and we have also discussed them together to provide the ideas and concepts of the high school popular science summer camp for education's work.
We think deeply about the difficulties we encountered along the way and plan to compile the iGEM experience manual. On April 30,2022, we held our first meeting to discuss the co-production manual. Since then, we have been in touch and pushed multi-period joint experience sharing on the public account. On May 16, the official account published an article, and the cooperation between the two sides officially began. On May 30, the official account published a joint journal (I) to introduce the experience of contacting mentors of both sides. The Joint Journal was released on June 27th (II).
6.28 - 7.6: initially edited the manual content
Up to now, our two teams have jointly pushed the content of four public accounts together. With the advancement of the tweets and the deepening of the content, we have gradually integrated and completed the version 1.0 manual. In the future, I hope to find more teams to join us on this basis, to share, and constantly improve and expand this experience manual, published in the official community in the form of open source, as a truly help the future igem team to learn, promote the development of igem competition and even the development of synthetic biology manual. In this sense, it is not only a summary of experience, but also a platform for all our teams to exchange experience. At the same time, it connects the past and the future, paving the way and waiting for the communication between the latecomers and the pioneers.
