Visit to Tamil-English Hybrid Medium School

Tamil Medium School

Venue: Matunga Kings Circle BMC School

Taking our education program a step further, the team went to Matunga Kings Circle BMC School to interact with students of classes 9 and 10. The students were addressed in three languages according to their backgrounds, Tamil, Hindi and English. We carried out this session with an aim of creating interest among underprivileged children of vernacular medium about the world of synthetic biology through easily relatable examples. We taught them about the DNA and the implications it can have on vaccine technology, plant life, microbiology and many more allied areas. The students were very interested and they posed a lot of questions on the lines of further possibilities and current technologies available. They were intrigued and asked the team how they could pursue these fields after which the team gave them practical advice regarding courses and career paths. The Principal of the school commended the team for their efforts and invited them to continue staying in touch and aiding students.

Again, this school was selected by us because the children of the staff that works at our college canteen and mess go to this school. It is nearer to our college and a continuous long term commitment is possible. We invited the students to our campus as they were really eager to visit. We showed them the different departments that are there on our campus and the equipment available. They were definitely awestruck. We shall make sure that they receive some opportunity to explore through a summer program organised by us for them on our campus or a workshop.
