Collaborations

Collaboration enables teams to broaden ideas, solve problems, and made our projects running smoothly.

1. HS_China donated us a plasmid pET-R0010-KP-SP-LacZ, making our recombinant plasmid construction easier and faster

In our project, we planed to use LacZ gene to construct a recombinant plasmid pET-28a-toehold switch-LacZ, which was desired to express β-galactosidase triggered by miRNA 34a-5p. At the beginning, we tried to amplify LacZ gene from the genome of E.coli, but we failed with many times. Then we were going to do the subcloning experiment to amplify LacZ gene for constructing the recombinant plasmid. After understanding HS_China’s project is related to the problem of lactose intolerance, in which a plasmid containing LacZ was used. So we asked HS_China team to give us this plasmid containing LacZ gene. They are very generous, and mailed it to us immediately. In addition, they told us the characterization and gave us the map of this plasmid (Fig.1), very helpful.

2. SMS_Shenzhen also gave us a plasmid containing LacZ gene

To construct the toehold switch plasmid containing LacZ gene to express β-galactosidase, we also asked SMS_Shenzhen to help us for same reason. Similarly, they also sent us a plasmid containing LacZ gene (Fig.2). We express our sincere thanks!

3. Nanjing-China helped us to solve some problems in wiki construction

https://2022.igem.wiki/nanjing-china/collaborations

Aa a greenhand, we often have troubles in wiki construction. Fortunately, many iGEMers gave us some assistance. For example, Nanjing-China helped us to solve some problems in this area, such as “how to implement the intra-page jump?”, “how to modify the link of menu html?”, etc. We often communicated each other using WeChat software, some screenshots are shown in the follows (Fig.3).

4. BJEA_China helped us to solve some problems in our wiki construction

https://2022.igem.wiki/bjea-china/collaborations

As an advisor of BJEA_China, Sihan Wang who is responsible for the construction of their wiki, is proficient in the web building. He is a warm-hearted person. He provided us a software, which was used to edit the local web page of our team, and he helped us to solve some problems in our wiki construction (Fig.4). For example, he taught us how to upload the local web page to Gitlab, and how to find the original documentation in “pipline of CI/CD”, etc. He troubleshoot many problems in our wiki construction which were very helpful to us. Here are some screenshots to show our communication on WeChat software. We express the hearty thanks for him and his team!

5. We 3 teams involved in major depressive disorder (MDD) had a virtual meetup to share some ideas

There are 3 teams in China iGEMer community did the projects which are involved in major depressive disorder (MDD). In order to better understand the background, current situation, progresses of diagnosis and therapy of MDD, and how to do the human practice work, we had a virtual meeting to discuss with the other 2 teams (WHU-China and LZU-HS-PRO-A) whose projects are both related to the therapy of MDD (Fig.5). Each team introduced its project in detail and some problems. WHU-China and LZU-HS-PRO-A also introduced their human practices and education activities. Through this communication, we understood comprehensively and learned lot of information of MDD, which was very beneficial to our project. Thanks for the help of these two teams!

6. participation in 9th Conference of China iGEMer Community

The 9th Conference of China iGEMer Community was held by Shanghai Tech University, School of Life Science and Technology, on Aug. 19th-22th this year. Due to the epidemic COVID-19, all teams participated in the conference online (virtual form). To communicate with other iGEMers and improve our project, we ICJFLS team participated in it (Fig.6). In the conference, our team gave a presentation to introduce our project, and we got some good ideas and suggestions which are very helpful to our project. And we acquired lot of knowledge. Before 1 day of the conference (Aug.18th), they hosted some special activities for high school students. For example, the special activity of cell free system was very important and beneficial to us. It gave some good idea and method to push our project forward. The biosafety lecture gave us more clues to pay attention to the safety in the process of experiments. And we knew some iGEMers in the conference that we talk about some problems regarding the experiment, wiki, and model, etc. Here is the certificate of participation for our team.
