Mrs.Ingram Advisor: Mrs. Ingram started her research career at The Scripps Research Institute in the Department of Cell Biology. At Scripps, her primary focus was the purification and characterization of fibroblast growth factor. She then moved to the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research at the UCSD campus in the department of Cancer Genetics where she conducted research on the mismatch repair system and its connection to colorectal cancer. She is involved in the Reproduction and Oncofertility Science Teacher Academy heads the AP Biology program at Westview High school and is an AP Reader for the AP Biology exam.
Mr.Donnelly is one of the advisors for WVHS_SanDiego_CA. He is the Biology teacher at Westview and also the football Varsity coach!
Hi! My name is Kavya Gupta, and I am the student leader and president of Westview iGEM! In school, we get numerous opportunities to learn about biology but there are not many places we can apply our foundational skills to real life situations. This is why I was interested in iGEM in order to apply my previous knowledge and grow connections with other like-minded biology enthusiasts. In the future, I want to go into the bioengineering industry, but right now, I spend my days involved in tennis, dance and piano!
Hi! My name is Anika Yadav and I am currently a senior at Westview High School in San Diego, California. Seeing the scarcity of women in STEM is one of the reasons why I wanted to get involved in this team. In science, there are a plethora of enigmas to solve and it allows mankind to discover the seemingly impossible. To me, science is a bridge to a new world of possibilities that I am dedicated to pursuing as a career. In the future, I would love to be a neurosurgeon, but also still keep up with my interest in immunology and synthetic biology! Along with science, I love to dance. I truly hope that I get to meet new people, make new friends, and just enjoy this journey.
Hi! My name is Ananya Bharathwaj, and I am a senior at Westview. I became interested in biology after participating in Science Olympiad, where I learned a lot about the different branches of science. This led me to become interested in the real-world applciations iGEM allows, especially regarding the intersection between our environment and synthetic biology. Outside of academics, I can be found playing the piano, playing badminton, or taking a walk / hike!
Hi, I'm Swasti Singhai, a current senior at Westview High School. My interest in research was first sparked when reading papers online, mainly in chemistry and biochemistry. After taking AP Chemistry & Biology, I decided to join iGEM to apply myself in doing research to solve a real-world problem. I'm particularly interested in the intersection of politics and STEM, and am a part of my school's Mock Trial and Speech & Debate teams.
Salutations! My name is William Huynh. I joined iGem because I was looking for a way to expand my experience in biology work. iGem was the perfect opportunity to try something but also get great experience under my belt.
Hi! My name is Ishana Rahman and I am a senior at Westview High School. I have always been interested in research and after doing various labs in AP Biology I wanted to broaden my lab skills and make an impact on a real world problem. This inspired me to join iGEM.
Hi! My name is Fiona Zhang. I joined iGEM because I have an interest in biology and want to expand my knowledge in the field. In iGEM, I have been able to get more hands-on experience in the lab, apply my knowledge to research, and solve real-world issues through synthetic biology.
Hi, my name is Kristina Douglas. I joined Igem because I was looking for a club that would provide me with a challenge, as well as gain real world experience solving problems through biology.
Hi! My name is Sophie Duan. I decided to join iGEM because I had interest in engineering and a newly acquired interest in biology when I learned of it. I was particularly into biology on smaller scales, and iGEM seemed like the perfect opportunity to expand my knowledge and put into application what I have learned.
Hello! My name is Emily Halim. The reason why I joined is because I wanted to apply what I had learned in AP biology into something that was able to solve a problem of somesort. iGEM was a space that let me be able to see the capabilities of what I can do and what I needed to improve on.
Hello, my name is Sanvi Garg. I joined iGEM to apply my knowledge from various classes and extracurriculars into a more hands-on experience. I wanted to solve a problem using the concepts that I learned while also gaining more knowledge along the way.
Hi, my name is Madison Yang. I joined iGEM because I wanted to take the biology I was learning in the classroom and find new opportunities to apply it towards making a difference in our community.
Hello, my name is Animesh Andhare. I joined iGEM out of total coincidence-My longstanding interest in biology and discovery of synthetic biology led me to a fateful encounter with iGEM. To me, iGEM fulfilled the alluring promise of biology in the form of its capacity to alter the future for the better.
Hi, my name is Karen Yuan. I joined iGEM because I was looking to get more experience with computational biology. I enjoyed both my biology and computer science classes and saw iGEM as a great opportunity to learn about the intersection between the two fields.
Hi! My name is Nitya Naik and I'm a junior at Westview High School. I was interested in iGEM when I heard that I would be able to use what I had learned about synthetic biology in school and apply it to real-life problems. Some of my hobbies are tennis, flute, and dance!
Hi, I'm Leila El-Kareh! I joined IGEM because I was looking to get a better understanding of the scientific research process and more experience dealing with said research. IGEM allowed me both the discovery and application environments through reading papers and doing hands-on experiments in a lab.
