On July 19th, we hosted an online collaboration with the Hong Kong United Christian College (Kowloon East) Biology Research Team, where we introduced our oak-wilt project and invited them to play the Bio-traveler game. ‘Bio-traveller’ is an open world on Roblox, made by the Pardee Lab. In the game, players answer questions to progress to next levels.
In different stages, students get to learn about different concepts about synthetic biology. In the first level, students get to learn about fundamental genetics such as the Mendel experiments and selective breeding. By answering questions, players gain different essential items to pass an obstacle course to the next level. In the later stages, participants get the chance to learn about more advanced concepts such as gene mutations and chromosomal disorders. They also get to learn about genetic diseases caused by some mutations.
At the University of Toronto Engineering Society Clubs Fair 2022, we created a space for everyone to play a non-alcoholic beer-pong game. The game comprises four different coloured cups arranged in the form of a pyramid. Each cup represents different synthetic building blocks, random building blocks sequence was given to players. Students who successfully landed balls in the assigned cups won the prize.
