Future Work

The goal of our project is to construct a bacterial strain "Beauty G. hansenii" with optogenetic approaches and used it to develop a live bacterial skincare product with multiple efficacy (See description for details). The overall design of our system is divided into three modules (See design for details).

We've constructed three modules separately and tested the function of each module (in 2021 project and 2022 project). All the three modules work as intended, but there is room for improvement. For the GshF expression and GSH production module, we will focus on enhancing the yield of GSH. For the lysis and safety module, additional efforts will be made in improving its evolutionarily stability. For the c-di-GMP signaling and BC film production module, we hope to achieve nearly zero level of BC production in the dark and higher yield and speed of BC production under NIR light. And we will assemble the three modules that fit within our design specification to build our strain "Beauty G. hansenii". In the meanwhile, we will optimize the product formulation to extend shelf life.
