The Demand:

Lactose intolerance is a kind of congenital genetic expression that occurs frequently in Asia. According to some scientific researches, nine out of ten people are lactose intolerant. At present, there are low lactose or zero lactose Shuhua milk on the market, but its price is expensive, not every patient can accept. Moreover, we gave out questionnaires and conducted a series of interviews with stakeholders. There is a common need for them, and that is an effective product to help those patients.

Targer uses:

The patients of lactose intolerance, the end-users we proposed, can enjoy dairy products freely through our product. As the questionnaire represents, public prefers to use the individually packaged products which contains our ultimate product, they also hope to get lactase processed diary products. In this condition, we dedicate to enhancing the expression and hydrolysis ability of β-galactosidase, and finally produce it as an individual packet.

How it Works:

The purpose of our experiment is to improve the expression and hydrolysis ability of β-galactosidase, so does our product. Although the product seems to work effectively for the customers, issues remain in the real world. The temperature should be considered in our project. Concerning the safety aspects of the project, the enzyme we used, β-galactosidase, are not pathogenic to humans. Furthermore, the enzyme will lose its function when exposed to high temperatures.
