Collaborations allow us to know about ourselves in a much better sense. Collaboration divides the tasks and multiplies the success. We had the opportunity to collaborate and interact with some of the most passionate and talented teams across the globe. Throughout this competition, we have had the occasion to understand and learn about each other’s project and synthetic biology, while exchanging knowledge that can help us elevate in our experimental work.
iGEM is a scientific community that not only encourages healthy competition but also advocates and helps various teams all over the world, form bonds and connections. One of the many important ways of forming connections and helping science grow within this community is through the Mentor-Mentee program. We approached Team Munich to mentor us they had graciously accepted to mentor our team and guide us with our project.
Throughout the following months, we had weekly online meets that were extremely vital and important in helping us shape our project. Mr.Deepak Kumar (Advisor of Munich iGEM 2022 team) and the rest of his team engaged in discussions with our team members and shared their knowledge
Our Sessions focused on:
Team Munich guided and offered us suggestions that helped us enhance the quality of our plasmids during the course of its construction.
The team provided their insights that helped us decide the suitable promoters needed for our project.
They extended a helping hand in looking into our project troubleshoots related to plasmid expressions.
We are extremely thankful to Mr. Deepak Kumar and the entire Munich iGEM 2022 team for their constant guidance and we hope to further strengthen our bonds in the future.
One of the collaborations that will remain closest to our hearts is the collaboration that was imitated by iGEM Team Netantis 2022. The idea behind the collaboration was to bring in members of our team in front of a water body and record them when they describe an emotion that they strongly feel when they are near the water body. The team members involved in this video were our beloved primary investigator, secondary investigator, our team instructor and our very own tech team member Thuhin Khanna and this video is taken in Elliots Beach, Chennai.
We had a virtual meeting with University of Waterloo's iGEM team to learn and discuss our respective projects. We had the privilege of getting to know the team and their project. We engaged in a brain-storming session that helped us understand ways by which we can improve and raise the standards of our project.
The IIT Delhi Team had reached out to us and sent us some questions they had with regards to their project and asking some other general advice. We connected with our iHP Guide, Dr.Venkat and asked the questions sent by the IIT Delhi team. Dr.Venkat shared his insights and answered their questions. We noted down Dr.Venkat’s response and shared those answers to them.
Our team, this year, needed assistance with computational modeling and IIT-Delhi extended a helping hand. They helped us understand the working of Alpha-fold software. They had also provided us with certain sample codes that helped us enhance our understanding on mathematical modeling.
We had participated Virtually in this year's ALL India iGEM Meet. We had the opportunity to present a poster pertaining to our project, CURLIM and we had answered all the questions raised by the judges. This Meet was the one that helped us connect with the IIT Delhi team. Participating in this event was a real eye-opener since we understood and gained perspective knowledge about so many other teams and their wonderful projects. This meeting was an enthralling and an opportunistic forum for us.
Team IISER Tirupati iGEM team had organized a write-up event where teams have to pen down their thoughts regarding the STEM community and how we, as a whole can be more inclusive and welcoming to LGBTQIA+ community. This was a great initiative and our team members, Marie Jyotsna and Avendhika had taken part in this collaboration by submitting a write-up from their perspectives as to how our community and world should be a safe and welcoming environment for the LGBTQIA+ community.
Team iGEM REC Chennai took part in a fun and educational survey collaboration that was organized by Team MIT_MAHE. We had provided them with information and filled up their survey on our team's favourite seafood dish and details such as where that aquatic animal can be found, how and why exactly it is famous among our region and the history of that aquatic animal. This collaboration helped us understand more about the chosen aquatic animal and certain unsustainable practices involved in the breeding of this species.
Our team had the opportunity to celebrate the International Day of World Indigenous People, thanks to the collaboration offered by Queens University iGEM team. We had to choose an indigenous scientist from our country and make a poster to help appreciate, rejoice and be thankful for the scientific accomplishments that were made possible by them. Our team had chosen Dr.Jagadish Chandra Bose, a revolutionary biologist and a physicist.
We had helped the Lamber_Ga iGEM team by curating a healthy cookbook containing super healthy and tasty recipes that represent our proud South Indian culture. Our team member, Abhitha, had helped in finding the perfect dish. Our chosen dishes are Medhu Vadai, Idiyappam and vegetable stew packed with South Indian magic, flavor and its mouth-watering aroma Medhu vadai is an ideal dish packed with protein, vitamin B and so many other essentials. One of the fun and innovative collaborations that our team had the opportunity to take part in was the Postcard Project that was initiated by the iGEM Duesseldorf 2022 team. Our team members engaged in this creative collaboration by designing a very cute postcard that contains the aim and a short description of our project. You can find the cute postcard made by our team below that contains the fine but simple details about our project.

We had the wonderful opportunity to collaborate with the NETLANTIS UCPH iGEM 2022 team belonging to the University of Copenhagen by taking part in their Spotify podcast collaboration. This podcast contains a preview of who we are and what exactly our project stands for. Our team enjoyed doing this podcast and we hope the listeners of this podcast equally benefit by gaining some knowledge about heavy metals and cadmium toxicity.
