MEET UP

In the process of the project, we may encounter various problems, and cooperation is an important way for us to find solutions to the problems. During the competition, we cooperated and exchanged with many universities.

MEET UP
2022 iBowu-China&SHSBNU-China

On June 26, 2022, we participated in the online Meet Up jointly held by IBowu-China and SHSBNU-China affiliated to Beijing Normal University. While most of the ideas haven't been tested yet, it's exciting to see what everyone has designed. Here we got to meet FAFU, whose project is a new treatment plan for COVID-19. They are strong in modeling, and we have established a long-term cooperative relationship with them, cooperating in both art and education.

iGEM Online Party

We also participated in the iGEM online party and had a full exchange with other teams to share our experiences and ideas.

Conference of China iGEMer Community

Later, we also participated in the Conference of China iGEMer Community(CCiC), where we shared our project ideas and had full discussion and communication with guests and other teams to exchange opinions.

Summer camp

We participated in the themed science practice summer camp held by our school for senior high school students, propagated science popularization for local senior high school students in Qingdao, and brought synthetic biology and iGEM into the horizon of the next session.

The main of our education included:
1)The development of synthetic biology
2) Current applications of synthetic biology
3)The important tool of synthetic biology——CRISER/Cas9 system

Night market activity with FAFU-China

In addition, we also had in-depth communication with FAFU-China. We exchanged project ideas and exchanged and cooperated with each other in HP.

In addition, we have also conducted in-depth cooperation with FAFU-China in offline science popularization education. We consider that the night market has a large flow of people, the age structure of the group is relatively complex, and the groups of people from various industries and education stages can make the science popularization play a role in a wider range. Therefore, we innovatively chose the night market as the platform for science popularization. In order to achieve better results, we carried out our offline science education activities by answering questions and receiving gifts. The followings are our main aspects.

1)Introduction to the concept of synthetic biology
2) Existing methods of COVID-19 detection and treatment
3) Some common sense about fermentation process
4) Introduction to IGEM

The number of participants in the activity is large, and this way can also let the public leave a deep impression on what we say, which has a good effect.

We also went to local kindergartens to do education. Taking advantage of children's hands-on characteristics, we selected two forms of color clay and painting to let children have a preliminary understanding of the novel coronavirus.

Online live broadcast in ICII

We also participated in the Into China, Into IGEM (ICII) event hosted by NAU-China. It's a great collaboration. In the activity, we adopted the form of live broadcast on the online platform to popularize science. The main contents include the development and application of SELEX technology, brief introduction of aptamer screening technology, aptamer application and synthetic biology knowledge, which attracted a lot of people to watch, and a lot of people left comments for interaction, and achieved very good results.

Comics with five teams

In July,We worked with JNU-China, FAFU-China, NFU-China,XMU-China and BIT on the art side. Co-produced science comics were used to educate the public about synthetic biology and IGEM. We published the comics on our respective wechat public account platform and made them into paper pamphlets. Our comics have been well received by readers and have received many page views, many people come to see our comics.

High school education with DUT-China&NEF-China

On August 11, 2022, NEU_CHINA, DUT_China and OUC_CHINA came to Inner Mongolia Xilinhot No.1 Junior High School and gave them a unique biology lesson. Our courses were from four aspects: biology, synthetic biology, transgene, and colorectal cancer targeted therapy.

Then we carried out a biological knowledge competition within the scope of the Inner Mongolia Xilinhot No.1 Junior High School Grade 9. It not only enhanced the knowledge reserves of the students, but also stimulated the students' enthusiasm for biology and synthetic biology.

Then, because of the COVID-19, our three team members decided to conduct online science popularization. On July 25 and August 5, 2022, members of our three teams met online with students from Grade 3 of Fuxin Experimental High School and Shenyang No.2 High School, respectively, to conduct a unique biology class for them with the theme of "Resolving the genetic Code and exploring the Mysteries of life".
Before starting the course, we first asked the students to fill in the questionnaire to learn about their attitudes towards GM and their understanding of biological knowledge.

Our courses are conducted in four aspects: biology, synthetic biology, transgenic, and targeted therapy for colorectal cancer (see figure 15 below). In class, the students were active and enthusiastic.

At the end of the presentation, we will ask the students to fill out the same questionnaire to test the usefulness of what we have said today.
