On 11 March 2020, WHO counted that the current COVID-19 pandemic could be called a global pandemic. Nowadays, the global pandemic is scattered in many places of China, and the impact of the novel coronavirus on social order and economic development cannot be neglected.While we are studying how to eliminate the virus, we also need to further strengthen the monitoring of the virus and take timely control measures before the virus spreads in a large area.

The method of monitoring viruses in existing areas is to conduct large-scale nucleic acid testing within the region, but this method also has certain limitations.It is not only consuming a lot of medical resources and medical staff, but also greatly increasing the risk of infection when people gather for nucleic acid testing.

Current testing methods/competitors

Nucleic acid detection is currently the most reliable means of screening and confirming whether humans are infected with the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), However, with the normalization of COVID-19, there is a need for faster and more convenient means of large-scale testing instead of frequent nucleic acid testing. Antigen detection has been added to Coronavirus detection, but as the antigen detection is similar to the principle of nucleic acid detection, and the sampling requirements are more complex, it can only be used as an important supplement to nucleic acid detection which cannot be replaced. Medical detection dogs have also become "weapons" for COVID-19 detection[1],which are a kind of sniffer dogs, mainly through the sensitive sense of smell of dogs to find potential viruses in humans. however, due to the difficulty of dog breeding, it cannot be widely popularized ,although this method can be tested on a large scale. Quality Control Circle(QCC) refers to a group of people with similar work natures spontaneously formed by a group, selecting quality improvement themes, using various quality control techniques and team strength and continuous quality improvement activities at the work site based on the application of Quality Control Circles[2]. The QCC has shown excellent results in clinical quality management. However, although the QCC has a Positive impact on shortening the waiting time for nucleic acid detection of the novel coronavirus, the waiting time before sampling of subjects has become significantly shorter, and it still cannot settle the core matter of "large-scale detection".

Different people can see the project from different perspectives and it is not enough to just discuss it within the team. Therefore we tried to contact experts or practitioners from various fields. We took down as many of their suggestions as possible, whether they were complimentary or critical of us. After filtering out the valid suggestions, the gaps in our project were improved and its positive and negative impact on the future was analysed. We have followed this rule throughout the course of our human social practice. This allows us to better facilitate the progress of our projects.

Our team has proposed a new solution for screening new coronavirus (2019 nCoV). We want to bypass large-scale nucleic acid testing, and the epidemic prevention department will directly detect and report it. We have designed a device that can detect new coronavirus in sewage, which can detect and report possible confirmed patients or asymptomatic infected persons at the initial stage of the epidemic.

Our Products

We have designed a device that can detect the novel coronavirus in sewage- Jiang Ziya 2.0 (Angler 2.0), which can detect the presence and spread of the virus in the earliest stages of an outbreak and report the number and conditions of possible confirmed or asymptomatic infections. In this way, the spread of the virus can be effectively and quickly monitored, and the novel coronavirus can be controlled in a small and controllable range in the fastest possible time. Effective early warning mechanisms remain the most needed technical means until mass vaccination is available, and certain epidemic pathogens which are the waterborne infectious diseases, such as Vibrio cholerae and poliovirus can be transmitted from contaminated water sources. After investigation, it was found that the novel coronavirus can remain in the feces or urine of infected people and maintain a certain amount of activity for a long time. Thus, we can qualitatively or quantitatively deduce the health status of residents in the sewage collection area by quantitatively analyzing the chemical or biological markers in the sewage. Thus, we can quantitative analysis of chemical or biological markers in wastewater to qualitatively and quantitatively deduce the health status of residents in the sewage collection area.

Key Technologies

First, we use mathematical modeling to predict whether there is a novel coronavirus in the sewer, and if it is found, the possible concentration of the novel coronavirus will be measured as soon as possible. The FAFU team built a hardware that can first initially purify the water quality, exclude the interference of some large substances, and then collect the possible virus, and react with the respiratory receptor proteins with stronger binding ability that we screened and detection, finally we make qualitative judgments through fluorescence signals. The detection line of this immunosensor can reach micrograms per milliliter, allowing the detection of viruses in sewage.Indirect real-time monitoring of residential users’ domestic water can be used to determine whether there exist a suspicious novel coronavirus and other water-borne viruses. This method can afford timely and effective information to the Ministry of Health and relevant epidemic prevention departments to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus and other types of infectious diseases.

Conducted social survey/feasibility analysis

According to the survey, since the outbreak of the epidemic, factories in various industries have faced the matter of labor shortages: in order to response to the government's demand for control of the flow of people during the epidemic, the arrangement of factory workers has changed significantly, factory workers have been reduced from 285 workers to 118 workers, and even fewer after the epidemic. Among them, the reasons are the difficulty of recruiting workers after the epidemic, and there are also layoffs due to the decline in the economic benefits of enterprises. In addition to the issue of labor, the cost of raw materials and logistics has also multiplied greatly. In 2021, the price of raw materials in the stone industry in Quanzhou City increased by 12-18% compared with that in 2019, and the logistics cost also increased by 20-23%. Under the influence of various external factors, the actual turnover of enterprises in 2021 is 28.6% lower than that in 2019.

In addition to economic problems, there are also the health problems of factory workers. Once a person is infected or conceals the history of travel and residence, the factory will face a huge blow. It can be seen that a more direct and fast detection technology is particularly crucial.

Therefore, we sell products to units with concentrated personnel and responsibility for epidemic prevention and control, such as communities, factories, schools, etc. In the early stage of the epidemic, confirmed patients or even asymptomatic infections were identified through this device, and they were directly tested and reported to the epidemic prevention department, rather than large-scale nucleic acid testing, which could shorten the time for testing and reporting, thus improve the accuracy of testing. This provides an efficient, convenient and safe new nucleic acid detection mode for epidemic prevention units, which greatly reduces the large-scale infection that may be caused by missed inspections, substitute detection, omissions, and concealment.

Ziya Jiang 2.0 of the team is expected to pilot in two factories in Quanzhou at the end of October. In the future, we will further improve the accuracy of the project and increase the scope of monitoring, so as to achieve indirect statistics on the health of people in the precinct by monitoring the virus content and composition of sewage in real time. , It further provides safety and security for the people in the community through the real-time monitoring of various water-borne infectious diseases in the community. In the meanwhile, it can also provide real-time monitoring for the Health Department and the Environmental Protection Bureau, and offer favorable data and information for various indicators and favorable standards that exceed the standard. We will cooperate with the hospital in the treatment of medical wastewater and conduct comprehensive testing, including the hospital's medical wastewater generation, centralized treatment of medical wastewater and final discharge. Do our best to achieve effective monitoring while treating medical wastewater in situ in hospitals, so that the content of various other pollutants in hospital medical water that meets discharge standards is reduced as much as possible. And finally we should strengthen risk control awareness, target monitoring and treatment of labeled viruses and pollutants.
