Collaborations

Our team mainly collaborated with three 2022 iGEM teams and we were located in different cities. Therefore, our collaboration meetings were hosted through an online meeting app.

Collaboration with H-Metal Silence team (Fujian_United) in Jiangsu

On July 27th, we had our first online collaboration with Jiangsu iGEM team H-Metal Silence (Fujian_United). They are also researching a technology that is beneficial to human health- a cheap and convenient rapid detection technology for heavy metals, which can help reduce the risk of bad metals exposure to the human body.

After the team was introduced to each other, we understood each other’ team goal and recent project progress and we had some discussion on the experimental design. In this meeting, we also shared our questionnaire and the idea of our question listing. We sought their advice to modify this survey and invited them to fill out the questionnaire. They were very kind and offered us some objective suggestions on individual questions in the questionnaire. In return, they shared ideas about their education activities and fundraising activities, and imparted their experience in related activities to us. One of the suggestions they gave us was that put our fundraising where there is more people, such as square and stadium. Therefore, later on, we chose a square nearby to sell our peripheral products.

Collaboration with DE-PETer team (Beijing_United) in Beijing

On July 28th, we had a second collaboration meeting with the team DE-PETer (Beijing_United) in Beijing. We were currently planning an education activity, and the team DE-PETer gave us a detailed introduction to their two lectures for different target groups. They complemented our upcoming lectures with aspects that we just overlooked, including pre-lecture promotion and in-lecture interactions.

In addition, their team suggested that we shall double confirm the details with the wet team before starting to write the business plan, so as to ensure the technical content is correct, otherwise, if we take time to draft some wrong content in the business plan, we still have to revise it repeatedly. Therefore, we learned from their previous failures and conducted an exchange meeting with the wet team. After detailed checking, we did find that there was a misunderstanding between dry and wet. We corrected these errors in a timely manner to avoid overriding the rewrite after the business plan was completed.

Collaboration with De-Dia team (Nanjing_HS) in Nanjing

On July 31st, we had our third collaboration with Nanjing's De-Dia team (Nanjing_HS). After pre-communication with their team advisor, we realized that we were a little ahead of their team, so we could share more experience to help them.

They mentioned they also designed a questionnaire for an online survey, so we took a look and provided them with some modification advice. We thought overall the questionnaire was quite succinct, and there were a few questions that people without diabetes cannot give answers to. Therefore, we suggested that they could add some more diverse and detailed questions, and maybe set up some logical rules to lead some specific respondents to answer some specific questions, besides they could also provide some diabetes-related knowledge for educational purposes in the questionnaire.

In addition, their team showed great interest in our topic and asked us a lot of questions, including different aspects such as topic analysis and follow-up activities, then we had a discussion on these questions and the business plan. During our sharing and exchange, we also found loopholes and defects that can be improved in our current business plan from their questions.
