Inclusivity

One of our goals is to provide an easier way to observe bacteria conditions. We are not only targeting the researchers but wishing we can further impact the industrial and medical fields. Therefore, several meetings are held with the masters from different fields, including experts from NYCU, Academia Sinica, and GeneFerm Biotechnology Company.

Firstly, we consulted Dr. Yu-Ling Shih from Academia Sinica for professional opinions regarding the differentiation of E. coli growth phases. The origin measurement method, OD600 measurement, is advised to be more accurate. Therefore, we propose a more reliable way for validating E. coli growth status by monitoring the rRNA composition change. Furthermore, we alter the strategy from small scale monitoring to the entire growth population since this way is more suitable for the application of the antibiotic.

Secondly, we have an online meeting with an expert from GeneFerm, the fermentation biotechnology industry. After consultation, we realized our strategy toward safety needed to improve if we wanted to apply our tool in the food-industry field. As a result, our team re-design the safety form for suitability to the food industry.

Thirdly, we had a cooperation with the NYCU Tai-gi, who are dedicated to making videos to share science with the public and popularized the dialect in Taiwan. We made a short video in Taiwanese Hokkien to explain technical terms and concepts for synthetic biology in a simple and funny way. Also, we provide mandarin and english subtitles, trying to spread synthetic biology and the dialect to many more people.

Furthermore, high school students from Taipei American School have an internship with us during the summer. We have designed a tutorial about the technology regarding synthetic biology.

In conclusion, NYCU-Taipei consults with three different fields, including scientific, industrial, and public community. In the scientific field, we receive advice from experts. In the industrial field, we notice the importance of biosafety in the bioindustry. In the public community, we express our ideas in various ways, including video, lectures, and social media .ect.
