Biosafety in Specific Sterilization

The microneedle system we designed has some safety properties, including specificity, safety, and security. It is worth mentioning that the “HAMA” and “linker” incorporated in the system ensure AMPC is only triggered by S. aureus to avoid damaging other bacteria that are good for the skin.

Biosafety in Microneedle

The microneedle is made of biocompatible material, it can avoid harming human tissue. Furthermore, it’s micron-sized structure reduce the risk of injury, which makes the usage of patient safer than the hypodermic needle.

Biosafety in AMPC

The "slow drug release" property of AMPC can prevent large amounts of harmful antimicrobial peptide released at the same time if their have unexpected negative effect on user. This is also a laboratory and environment-friendly drug delivery system, design of AMPC would not let the active AMP spread randomly outside the system and laboratory.

Training

Before entering the laboratory, we took the biosafety and biosecurity courses and successfully passed the test. While entering the laboratory, we ensure that we wear personal protection equipment. While working on Staphylococcus aureus and bioengineered E.coli, we use the biosafety cabinet properly to avoid lab members being exposed to infectious organisms and contaminating our culture.

Also, we wash our hands after handling infectious materials and before we leave the laboratory. Besides, there is emergency safety equipment next to the laboratory to ensure laboratory safety. Finally, in the process of the experiment, Dr. Hwan-You Chang and Dr. I-Chi Li with rich experimental experience always accompany with us to complete the experiment, ensure the safety of our experiment, and support the practice of our completed experiment.
