Human Practices

The human species is constantly evolving, creating, inventing, and designing new ways of making our life easier. Within this all, there is everything that has been conceived with technology, like machines. Among other things, they help in the construction of many things that we use, or they simply help us in our day-to-day lives.

The issue at hand is that using all those machines has problems on the other side. We have as an example the factories, transport methods or the electrical appliances... All this contaminates too much with each type to its measure, but using it daily means that the level of contamination that they all create together can already be noticed by all due to the changes that our planet is suffering. In an image from the Mauna Loa World Observatory, we have a graph of the amount of CO2 in our atmosphere over the years since the 1960s.

Due to problems like these, humans have been trying to find ways to improve a little this situation that is getting worse. New ways of transport are being created that use electricity instead of gasoline as a source of energy. Thus demonstrating that little by little we can improve. CO2 sensors have also been created in order to warn us when our surroundings are too concentrated with CO2 so that we can take the necessary measures. These solutions are part of some of the goals that have been created to improve our planet: the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Nevertheless changing the type of primary source of energy, creates new problems, such as the electricity price. For the most part, everything we use in our day-to-day life is electrical. The problem is that the price of electricity does not stop rising and this complicates people, who apart from having to get money for their personal needs, also have to earn it to pay the high prices of electricity. We can see the evolution of the prices in different countries since 2016, also providing how it could be in the next year.

Due to problems like these, they have been trying to find ways to improve a little these situations that were getting worse. We have also decided to put a grain of sand in the subject. Our goal is that in the future plants can perform the same function as a CO2 sensor, it may seem like something that is not enough, but this is the beginning of something that can grow and become a model for giving solutions to problems with modified plants.

This is the way we want to help out society; giving a solution based on plants, organic living beings that thanks to synthetic biology can perform tasks such as ours. But their applications go beyond sensing CO2, we feel that engineered plants could be the solution to many of the problems we are facing.
