The Marseille iGEM team contacted French teams to help them in the elaboration of a trivia quiz game. They asked us to propose questions. We seized the opportunity and proposed to them to collaborate. The goal of this game is to popularize biology to non scientists in a fun way. The game contains cards with general questions about biology and “Did you know?” cards containing fun facts about biology and it is done in the format of trivia game. To increase the number of cards, we asked other iGEM teams to participate by posting announcements on Instagram. In the end, the goal was to have an important amount of cards to cover as much scientific knowledge as possible. For both the Marseille team and us, it is really important to popularize science to the general public. This is why we did not want to dedicate this game to a special age group. Moreover, the game is open source as we wanted to make it accessible by everyone. Finally, the objective is to increase the amount of questions every year. By making this game accessible by the future iGEM teams, we participate in a global effort for science popularization.
The Maastricht iGEM team asked us to participate in the elaboration of a puzzle book. They wanted us to give them an abstract about our project, ten meaningful words for us and an explanation about these words. In the end, they gave them a puzzle book about our project.
Under the initiative of iGEM foundation, we participated with other French iGEM teams in the elaboration of a handbook dedicated to French and foreign teams that come to Paris for the first time. This handbook contains a simplified Parisian subway plan with famous monuments, French words, nice restaurants, few things to know about France, Parisian famous monuments and fun science places. We were in charge of the simplified subway plan. Moreover, we added information about how to buy subway tickets and how to reach Paris Portes de Versailles easily.
From the 7th to 9th of July, Nessim participated in the French iGEM meetup organized by the Toulouse iGEM team. It was the occasion to meet all the French teams and to present for the first time our project to other iGEM teams . The three days were composed of project presentation, poster presentation, game to know Toulouse, bioeconomy symposium and friendly moments. Awards were at stake (Best presentation, Best poster, Public’s favorite project award and Best bio-economical project) and we won the “Best presentation” award and the “Public’s favorite project” award. This meetup was also the occasion to have a first feedback of the project and ideas about where to go and how.
