Proposed Implementation

Introduction

Our team used cell surface display technology to display chitosan enzyme to optimize the traditional experimental scheme and improve the production efficiency of chitosan oligosaccharide, which proposed an effective solution to a practical problem in life and provided a theoretical basis.

In real life, it’s a really serious problem that people cannot effectively deal with leftover shells.

We found that this kind of kitchen waste can be mixed with Escherichia coli and other substances that display chitosanase on the cell surface after special treatment to generate a beneficial sugar - chitosan oligosaccharide. Chitosan oligosaccharide is called beneficial substance, which not only regulates the growth status, intestinal morphology, intestinal villi and other morphological indicators of animals, but also regulates physical and chemical indicators such as immunity.

Compared with the previous method, our method is not only simple and convenient, but also greatly improves the production efficiency.

Fortunately, the chitosan oligosaccharide has several beneficial functions such as lowering blood lipid, blood sugar, blood pressure, and improving immunity. Our product can be sold to the market for use by middle-aged and elderly people.

Target Users

We choose the elderly population with high blood sugar, high blood fat and low immunity as the target users. They are a group of people whose ages are close to our grandparents, but suffer from various diseases. They also have their own children and grandchildren. We believe that senior citizens need to be cared for most in our society, especially in the era when the trend of aging is increasing.

Our Goals

1. Use this co-fermentation preparation method to protect the environment.
2. Using cell surface display technology to improve the efficiency of chitosan oligosaccharide preparation.
3.Promote the chitosan oligosaccharide produced to the market as a product.

Production

We plan to cooperate with the production factory to recycle shrimp shells and crab shells from restaurants. The shells will be fermented with the genetically modified E. coli. After fermentation, we will extract chitosan oligosaccharide from fermentation broth and make it into something edible.

We conducted a wide range of market research and interviews, and found that there are a large number of residues of seafood shells in restaurants, and the recycling price is low. In addition, the availability of E. coli as raw material for production is relatively high. Therefore, we believe that the research results will have broad prospects for large-scale factory production.

Marketing

Beijing's population is aging seriously. Therefore, we believe that the market of health care products is broad. We interviewed the sellers of health care products, and the results were exactly as we thought. Health care products were very popular.

Based on this, we plan to cooperate with the leading pharmaceutical and health product sales companies in Beijing. We will let people know the benefits of chitosan oligosaccharide through the following methods:
1.Inviting experts to attend lectures.
2.Explain the role of chitosan oligosaccharide to people in our communities.
3.Advertisements and posters.
However, whether this plan can be implemented on a large scale still needs to be considered.

Safety consideration & challenges

Our product is positioned as a health product, which will be consumed when it reaches the end user. Therefore, regarding the safety of the project, first and foremost, it is necessary to consider the effectiveness and safety of the product - chitosan oligosaccharide itself. The product needs to be tested, including its toxicity, microbial content and activity. In this process, microbial testing agents need to be designed and manufactured.

Secondly, it is necessary to consider whether the raw materials used in the production process, including shell kitchen residues and E. coli, are safe. Therefore, it is necessary to strictly control the whole process to ensure that our product is edible.

There are some challenges to consider when we actually implementing the project:
1. Whether the results of laboratory research can be put into mass production
Even though the cell surface display technology we use can greatly increase the production efficiency of chitosan oligosaccharide and reduce the harm to the environment, this project still needs to be repeatedly tested when it comes to food standards to finally confirm whether our method is feasible.
2. How to make users accept and use chitosan oligosaccharide
We learned that in fact, few people know about chitosan oligosaccharides through interviews. If you want to promote this product to the market in large quantities, it is a huge challenge for users to accept and use it. For example, we need to consider how to improve target users' understanding and recognition of products, as well as the rationality of prices.
3. Whether the health care product can be successfully marketed
Through the survey, we learned that not only China, but also some developed countries in the world have extremely complex and meticulous approval processes for drugs and health products, and dozens of health function reports need to be submitted to ensure that the products are not harmful to people. Therefore, in the early stage of listing, we need to spend a lot of time to sort out the report and prepare for the final audit, which may not even meet the listing standards.
