Overview
As a project mainly focus on environmental problems, P Pack is designed to prevent eutrophication and, in the mean time, recycle the excessive phosphorus element for use. The project mainly works on promoting the concept of sustainable development with synthetic-biological methods. This concept consists of two main meanings. First, the genetic-modified E.coli strain realize the recycling of inorganic phosphate. Second, the bacteria themselves are able to be recycled. Therefore, the project is with the chance of application in both environmental engineering and manufacture.
Prospect
1 Uses on environmental engineering
Taking Dongting Lake as an example, P Pack is with the opportunity to be applied in both prevention stage as well as recovery stage. Several kinds of workmanship produce polluted water with excessive phosphate. P Pack can be used to absorb inorganic phosphate before discharging. What’s more, P Pack can be also used to recover the eutrophic water under immobilization techniques.
2 Uses on manufacture
Some kinds of workmanship, such as pesticide production, require inorganic phosphate as their materials. The bacteria which have fully absorbed phosphorus elements can act as batteries of phosphate and release phosphate ions for industrial application.
