Safety
Safety, the foundation of all experiments, is something the team took very seriously. The team's emphasis on safety ran through the whole research process.
Laboratory Preparation
Before getting into the lab, all team members were trained online for two months, in order to be fully prepared for all of the following experiments. The online class covered the background description, experimental principle, and in lab notifications. With the big overview of the project, the team was able to get on track quickly.
In-lab Safety training
Because the experiment needs all the team members to participate, all team members were required to follow the following lab safety rules before entering the lab:
    - When performing experiments, always wear a lab coat and gloves
    - No drinking or eating in the lab
    - Take off all jewelry beforehand
    - Put all personal belongings outside the lab
    - Tie up long hair
    - Avoid shoes or trousers that do not cover the body
Other than the rules before entering the lab, it is also very important to use the equipment and materials safely and correctly.
    - The correct use of pipette (Select the appropriate range, Install the spear, hand-held method, and regulate the suction/discharge of liquid)
    - Keep everything clean when operating on the super clean bench
    - Wear shoe covers when entering a room with precision instruments
    - Keep the liquid level at eye level while checking the scale
    - Follow the protocol for the experiments
    - Prepare all the materials before starting the experiment
    - Note the need to keep sterile materials
Checking the equipment before using it:
    - Whether the instrument surface is damaged
    - Whether the centrifuge is balanced
    - Whether there is water in the sterilizer to avoid fire
    - Electronic scale calibration
    - Whether the instrument is set up properly (temperature, time, speed)
Cleaning the Laboratory
After finishing the experiments each day, before leaving, the very last thing to do is to clean the lab:
    - Turn off the equipment after using it
    - Turn the pipette back to its maximum range
    - Laboratory materials stored properly (DH5a, sbPETase, etc)
    - Follow the instructions for spreading different laboratory trash before throwing
    - Hand washing
    - Clean the surface of the workplace every day, if needed, disinfect
    - Clean the tools used and put them back to their place
Emergency situations
It is also very important to know what to do when facing an emergency:
    - The use of fire extinguishers
    - Eye washing if chemical spills into eyes (15min)
    - Be careful when using toxic substances (Nucleic acid dye etc), beware of spillover
    - Go to the hospital on time if the situation is serious
