Our mystery boxes

Purpose

To raise public awareness of H.Pylori detection’s necessity, get recognition for our brand, and get funds for stomach health donations, we did a charity fair to promote our goal as well as gather funds for our research work.

Preparation

At first, the plan was to customize all of the peripheral goods, but then we realized not only that it cost more for customization but also not that necessary. Therefore, we did some research on the popular items as peripheral goods and purchased customized stickers which are quite cheap, appealing goods, and self-made 50 mystery boxes with a small lottery. Then we selected a hot spot and rented a booth in the plaza. We investigated our “competitors” in advance in order to know their pricing and products so as to adjust our price to attract more customers with a more tempting price.

Process and Donation

Unsurprisingly, due to all of the hard work, the cute octopuses and mystery boxes were sold out at the end of the charity fair.

In addition, throughout the fair, some of our teammates went to interview some passers to get a rough understanding of the current awareness level of the crowd regarding H. Pylori and biosynthesis so that we could better provide fitting scientific knowledge. During our communication with the public, we also shared interesting facts about a little-known but dangerous bacteria, H.Pylori, and gave out our postcards with a cartoon version of H.Pylori printed on the front and specifics on the back.

Within 5 hours, we earned 1797 CNY in total, and the profits (roughly 240 CNY) were donated to the UK Cancer Research center. For the donation reason, we wrote in the name of ProTeen fessionals” and said that “We are a group of high school students in Shanghai who did some research on H.Pylori and its connection with stomach cancer. We raised some funds for our project and made more money than we expected, so we planned to donate the extras to the Cancer Research center." After the donation was done, we received an email from the UK Cancer Research center with gratitude.
