Implementation
Goals

We hope to design a simple and easy-to-use platform to help researchers of enzyme metabolism and engineering quickly and simply access to obtain enzymes with potential catalytic activity, to create the possibility to ultimately obtain the unrecorded enzymes with high catalytic activity for a specific reaction through further evolution and modification in the laboratory.

Efforts

We conducted extensive paper research to understand current problems in the metabolic engineering field and have some talks with some teachers and students in school labs, as well as drug developers, to ensure that our tools provide the functionality they expect and to understand how they want to interact with our platform in order to improve our tools and make them more user-friendly.

In addition to providing the basic functions of enzyme search, we hope that our platform can carry more functions to meet the diverse needs of developers of different metabolic pathways. After many discussions, we decided to further supplement the development of the dynamics model and calculating system of coupled reaction based on the Michaelis-Menten equation, to help the researchers to find and predict the suitable coupled reactions based on the selected enzymes, and further improve the use experience and efficiency.

Future

The development of "new" enzymes with specific catalytic activity based on widespread enzyme promiscuity has great applications. We hope to further improve the algorithm, improve the matching degree of search results and given reactions, improve the success rate of laboratory work, and further provide more diversified services to enrich the user experience. At the same time, in order to bring MEI to more people, we are trying to put MEI on larger relevant platforms or cooperate with other platforms, and build or link more and richer databases.
