Hi! my name is iRNAldo and I’ll be your guide on this trip. Welcome to Tec Chihuahua’s iGEM 2022 project: Agrocapsi!
world
Have you ever imagined losing your lifetime work? What if we told you this is the reality of farmers due to a vicious enemy?
Fungus
Wilting is a disease suffered by chilli plants, caused by the oomycete Phytophthora capsici. Current solutions against this disease use different agrochemicals. These result harmful to health, the environment and promote pathogen resistance.

So, how can synthetic biology offer a better solution?
Agrocapsi is a biofungicide that contains 2 antimicrobial peptides along with iRNAs working against P. capsici. Using cellular machinery, it is possible to create a solution that:
  • Doesn't contaminate soils & water bodies.
  • Doesn't affect the user's health.

This solution can work on chilli or any other kind of crop that suffers from this oomycete. Our plan is to make the product effective, accessible and valuable enough to fulfill the farmers' expectations.
