Our team had significant achievements in both science communication and the development of educational materials related to synthetic biology.
This page describes our efforts to communicate our work to a wider audience. The Education page describes our development of an exhibit on bacteriophages for a local science museum.
SUNY Oneonta Summer Research Showcase
We communicated information about our project with fellow students, faculty, and the general public via posters presented at the SUNY Oneonta Summer Research and Creative Activity Showcase. All students supported through the Summer Fellowship track of the SUNY Oneonta Student Grant Program for Research & Creative Activity were encouraged to participate in this weeklong event. We saw this as an opportunity to share our work with fellow students, as well as the local community, and to get feedback on our museum exhibit prototype. Our team presented three posters as part of this event: one for our cyanophage engineering project, one for the virus museum exhibit, and one for our work on the iGEM InterLab Measurement Study. The posters were on display in the SUNY Oneonta Hunt Union International Lounge from Thursday, September 8 through Thursday, September 15. Presentation sessions were held on Wednesday, September 14 from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. where our team spoke with visitors to the showcase and explained our projects. We had hoped to present a full prototype of our exhibit and receive feedback via a questionnaire that we had designed, but problems with our 3D printer prevented us from having a complete exhibit.
