Overview

The publicity and education of new things can not be ignored, especially when the questionnaire shows that a large number of people know nothing about the relevant fields, we have the necessity and obligation to carry out science popularization propaganda to the broad masses in various forms.

During the questionnaire survey, we found that the public's understanding of synthetic immunotherapy needs to be improved. At the same time, the acceptance of new treatments is not encouraging. Some people even have never heard of cancer treatments other than surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. This reminds us of the necessity of popularizing the relevant information.

Therefore, we used a variety of channels (offline and online, inland and INS) to publicize and educate about our programs, synthetic biology, and synthetic immunology. We tried our best to expand the scope of the audience, especially focusing on middle school students and the general public.

In the brochure, we detailed the main contents of our project in rigorous and scientific language. We hand out handbooks not only at the curb, but also on campus. Educational Resource Package

In addition to the general public, we also specially made educational resource packs for middle school students, including introduction to our project, introduction to synthetic biology and synthetic immunology, introduction to IGEM competition, etc., so as to stimulate the scientific research interest of middle school students and cultivate their thinking of synthetic biology while promoting education.

How to produce?

We gave presentations in Shanghai yangjing middle schools and left CD-ROMs for middle school teachers so that students could access the information when they needed it. The students listened very carefully, which made us feel gratified.

After the lecture, we exchanged contact information with the students who were interested in the related fields, so that we could answer their questions at any time and provide help as we could.

Synthetic Biology Learning Manual

The instructors of NMU-China chiefly wrote the "Synthetic Biology Learning Manual" with the team members' participation

This book answers many public confusions when facing synthetic biology from the perspective of beginners. It can be used as a popular science book for synthetic biology enthusiasts to understand genes and their language, the working principles of gene circuits, and the principles of genetic elements. It can also be used as a guide book for iGEM participants.

The electronic version this book has been confirmed and the publication is in progress.

Campus presentation

For college students, we held a lecture on synthetic immunology. After using this activity, we hope to educate the relevant knowledge and arouse the students' interest in scientific research, as well as publicize the IGEM competition.

Peripheral products

We designed a variety of peripheral products, including masks, USB sticks, books, folders, bookmarks and so on. We designed the design in Wiki-style colors and patterns, and pasted our project overview and team information on the back of the package. It is hoped that publicity and education can be integrated into students' lives so as to maximize its effect.

Wechat offical accounts

In the mass interview, the interviewees clearly expressed their hope that our science popularization could be as understandable as possible. Therefore, we not only used vivid illustrations, but also personified cells, and told our project in the form of stories in easy to understand language to promote and popularize our project on wechat public accounts. At the same time, we also use the wechat offical accounts platform to promote and educate synthetic immunology, from the concept of synthetic immunology, current situation to future prospects. In addition, we also reprint the related knowledge articles of synthetic biology for fans to read.

Through the number of page views and the number of likes, we can preliminarily judge that our promotion has a certain effect. At the same time, according to the feedback of the return visitors, we can also know that the publicity and introduction of our project is easy to understand and supported.

Bilibili

Compared with the wechat public account, Bilibili may be more popular with young people in China. Therefore, in order to promote the comprehensive coverage of the publicity, we also uploaded the related introduction video on Bilibili platform, not only to publicize our project more widely, but also to arouse more young people's interest in synthetic biology.

The atlas of Synthetic Biology

We worked with six teams, CPU-China, TJUSLS-China, HiZJU-China, ZJU-China, ZJUT-China AND ZJUintl-China to compile synthetic biology . This atlas systematically introduces the content of synthetic biology from the aspects of overview, technology, idea, crossover, application and outlook. In this way, we hope to promote the popularization of synthetic biology and let more people know about synthetic biology.

Wider

To further expand the publicity, we not only publicize in the mainland, but also publicize our modeling section through the Instagram platform with the help of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

We introduced our modeling section in plain language, and with the help of the Hong Kong team, we promoted the project to a wider scope.
