In our project, we genetically modified E. coli Nissle 1917 so the germs can produce GABA and 5-HTP. We plan to inject this genetically modified strain into the human gut to mitigate depression. We also designed a system for apoptosis to kill the germs once they get out of the human body and prevent transgenetic pollution.
