Meet Jace Lamoureux; He’s been a part of the University of Lethbridge iGEM Team since early 2022, specifically as a part of the Human Practices sub-group. Biology has always been an interest of Jace’s, particularly sustainable agriculture, the field of mycology, and biomedical science. During his off-time you might find him outdoors foraging, or working on his own projects in his home lab!

Hello! I am Jazmina! I am a member of the Wetlab and Drylab subgroups, and this is my first year in iGEM! I decided to join the team because it seemed like an amazing opportunity to enhance my skills in the lab, as well as meeting new people with similar interests and goals as myself! I’m currently in my third year studying Biological Science, and hope to one day become a medical research scientist for genetic diseases!

Baillie is entering her final year of undergraduate studies at the university of Lethbridge where she will obtain a Bachelor of Science majoring in Biological Sciences. She is specializing in cell biology and physiology, with an emphasis on biomedical research. Baillie has been part of the U of L iGEM team since spring 2022 where she works as part of the Wet Lab Team. What interested her about the U of L iGEM team was the autonomy to develop laboratory plans and to troubleshoot as a team when experiments do not work (which is often).

Jason is entering his 3rd year in Biochemistry while being a 1st-year iGEM wetlab member. He joined the iGEM team because synthetic biology is a field that interests him while also hoping to fine-tune his laboratory skills in the Biochemical area. Jason was interested in joining iGEM as he wanted to meet like-minded people that hopefully have similar interests as him (he did). He is also working in the Thakor Cancer Lab at the U of L, working with cancerous brain cells and various proteins that are elevated/decreased when cancer cells are present. He enjoys running, callisthenics, and reading in his free time!

Emily is the leader of this year’s ULeth iGEM team, and has been involved with iGEM for the past 7 years. She is entering her fourth year studying Neuroscience at the University of Lethbridge, where she also works in a lab that is researching Alzheimer’s disease. In her free time, Emily enjoys baking, scuba diving, water skiing, and cheering for the Edmonton Oilers.

Damon is a 3rd year biology major at the University of Lethbridge (UofL) participating in the UofL iGEM team for the sake of helping create CyaNoMore; he sees it as something worth investing time in. In addition to the cause, Damon seeks to further contextualize the information he has learned in the classroom so far in his university career and become more acquainted with the laboratory environment.

This is Marcel, and he is the advisor for the Lethbridge Collegiate and the High School iGEM Team. This is his 4th in iGEM and in the past two years he has also been a mentor for the DNHS SanDiego iGEM and the University of Rochester iGEM teams. He joined iGEM because it seems like the perfect place to grow his passion for science, to be in a wonderful team such as the Lethbridge Collegiate team, and Lethbridge HS team, and of course to learn more about applied synthetic biology. In his spare time he enjoys hanging out with his friends, playing the cello, reading and going on hikes. You will always find him in the lab or on a run for more coffee.

Hello! My name is Karo and I am a part of the Human Practices subgroup for this year’s iGEM team. As a Neuroscience major w/ a minor in Women and Gender Studies, what sparked my interest in iGEM was its interdisciplinary approach to learning and how it allowed me to build a better conceptualization of the world around me through synthetic biology. I hope to one day incorporate it in my medical related aspirations. In my free time however, I often enjoy playing basketball and reading.

This is Aum’s second year in iGEM; after being a student member in 2021, he was excited to continue with the project as an advisor. Aum finished his undergrad in Neuroscience this past May, and is currently working in administration. He hopes to continue graduate studies next year, but is uncertain as to which field of study he will pursue.
