Stress can affect all parts of your life, including your emotions, behaviors, thinking ability, and physical health. These symptoms can be eased by use a substance called CBD. CBD is known to have relaxing and anti-inflammatory effects. CBD is extracted from hemp. The methods of extractions are very costly therefore CBD infused products are too costly for consumers. Our main goal is to produce CBD efficiently via Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The production of CBD requires two substances. These substances are, Geranylgeranyl-PP(GPP) and olivetolic acid (OA). GPP is produced via terpenoid backbone biosynthesis. In this pathway, two rate-limiting enzymes are present. To overcome these rate-limiting factors, our team thought of overexpressing these enzymes by inserting them into the plasmid and transforming the yeast. OA can be bought and put directly into the culture medium, but it is very expensive (5g is approximately $60). Instead, we thought of producing OA in Saccharomyces cerevisiae by adding Hexanoic acid, a less expensive substance, which would undergo several reactions, with the help of the introduced enzymes. We believe that this method of CBD production can be cost and yield effective therefore, making CBD infused products more affordable to consumers.
Our team could not participate in this contest without assistance from these companies. They supported our project expenses such as experimental costs, registration and participation fees. Thanks to all the following sponsors !!
