The video aimed to give a clear picture of how to discard a sanitary napkin after its use in an appropriate manner to ensure environmental and biological safety.

This day was celebrated to aid all menstruators in maintaining good menstrual hygiene for their well-being.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATION

CLEAN-THE-ROADS DRIVE

5th June 2022

“The environment is no one's property to destroy; it's everyone's responsibility to protect”.

The team was always determined to make people aware of the importance of a clean environment. The change you want to witness should begin within yourself. The team initiated the clean-the-road movement, a social activity where student members of the team cleared the busiest road near the campus by picking and packing the plastic non-biodegradable waste materials into garbage bags and discarded them accordingly.

During the movement, the team got a great chance to interact with the people and spread awareness about the same.

During those interactions, the team never failed to talk about the importance of a clean environment and the appropriate waste disposal techniques that need to be followed by an individual.

The team also collaborated with iGEM Crete to participate in an event called "How can buying locally benefit the environment?"

The team clicked pictures with the local shops and supported the movement.

The movement motivated society to adapt to a local environment and purchase merchandise to reduce the carbon footprint and maintain a cleaner and safer environment.

WORLD BLOOD DONOR DAY

14th June 2022

There exists a constant requirement for blood for some to be transfused to save their life. One way to ensure that we become a part of being responsible citizen is to stay motivated and help the needy at the right time.

The team on this day posted various posters on social media platforms supporting people to donate blood and actively supporting the institute in conducting the blood donation awareness camp. The team shared posters on social media about the donor and respective recipient blood groups.

This was shared on various social media platforms to make people aware of their potential to save lives by donating blood at the right time.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

ARTICLE FOR "SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY REVIEW "-THE GLOBAL JOURNAL

The team penned down the article on "Diagnosis of PCOS" as a collaboration with Stonybrook for the "Synthetic biology Review, "the global journal.

The article speaks about the current diagnostic techniques involved in diagnosing Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and the increasing prevalence of the syndrome. The team focused on making a feasible efficient, hassle-free diagnostic kit to suffice all the Ovary Owners and help them maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The journal-published article aimed to make people aware of the syndrome, associated symptoms, comorbidities, and the current diagnostic techniques involved.

The team concentrated on communicating our project through this article.

PCOS AWARENESS DAY CELEBRATION

The team, prominently working on the PCOS diagnostic kit, organised a PCOS awareness campaign by distributing teal ribbon badges to the IISER Tirupati family members to spread awareness about PCOS.

PCOS is one of the most common reasons for infertility and other comorbidities, the syndrome though not curable. Management of symptoms is the prescribed way to deal with this syndrome. Realising this fact and making the community in which we live aware of this syndrome, the team took the initiative to distribute these badges that symbolise support for PCOS and its awareness.

More than 200 handmade badges were distributed to the IISER Tirupati family members and made the people aware of the same.

The team worked to help people understand this syndrome and explained the project and its applications.

PCOS AWARENESS 3K WALK

The team is constantly working to make people aware of the syndrome and planned communication with a large-scale audience in an offline mode to build two-way communication. The team organised a rally where more than 150 participants joined. The participants walked 3 km from the IISER Tirupati campus to the RTO Office Tirupati. The event was honoured by Additional Superintendent of police E Supraja and the authorities of the IISER Tirupati family. The Rally began with the most enthusiasm, and slogans supporting awareness of PCOS were held high in voice and posters.

The rally was organised in an environmentally friendly manner avoiding the use of plastics, and non-biodegradable substances were not used.

The posters were made out of recycled boxes.

Local newspapers covered the event to ensure maximum outreach among the audience. The event was live-streamed on Instagram to ensure that even the people who were not in the vicinity knew about this syndrome and maintained a healthy lifestyle, as suggested by the Guest of Honor, Additional SP E Supraja.

The event gained the public's support and achieved its motto, making a large population aware of this syndrome.

The participants strictly followed all the covid protocols and basic safety guidelines during the rally.

The NSS unit of IISER Tirupati assisted us in organising this event.

PROJECTING ABOUT PCOS AWARENESS AND OUR IDEA

The team's keenness to aid the people in understanding our project motivated us to create a display screen in the institute reception where the awareness messages on PCOS and our project APTASTELES were displayed to the audience and throughout the PCOS awareness month.

The team was constantly in touch with the people who had any doubts or clarifications about our project, and with maximum effort, the team discussed to help them understand our project too.

THE PCOS AWARENESS BROCHURE

The team constantly communicated with different gynaecologists who suggested creating awareness among ordinary people.

The team worked on making an awareness brochure containing the details of the project, what PCOS is and the common symptoms.

Further, the team opened a question collector where the stakeholders could upload their doubts to the collector. The questions were discussed with the gynaecologist and nutritionists to make the FAQ section of the brochure.

The brochure was also made dyslexic-friendly by incorporating the suggestions from Madras and Pondicherry Dyslexia association.

CONVEYING SYN-BIO

THE SUMMER SESSIONS AT SOS CHILDREN'S VILLAGE

The SOS Children's Village at Tirupati homes has more than 50 children of different age groups below 16. They are an independent, non-governmental and non-profit organisation working for the holistic development of parentless children, women, and children belonging to vulnerable families

The team, with full enthusiasm, conducted a 5-day session at SOS children village with young minds discussing basic science experiments and fundamentals of synthetic biology.

Replicable protocols have been developed to aid the children in trying out the experiments independently and help them learn science with fun and real-world applications.

The team had fun chat sessions with the students and made the students experience and develop an interest in building solutions to real-life problems with science.

DISCUSSION SESSION WITH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

The team actively involved students and young researchers in discussions over synthetic biology and used it as a tool to solve real-world problems.

The team engaged in building a conversation with the students about synthetic biology and how it could help tackle the existing issues. The team introduced synthetic biology using the team's informative poster and spoke about the ethical aspects of the same.

The team also had discussions about iGEM and motivated them to be a part of STEM.

ETHICS IN SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY: THE PODCAST SERIES.

Understanding the ethical aspects involved while developing the project is vital when an individual starts to work in the laboratory.

The team, along with VIT Vellore, recorded a 4 episode podcast series with four different experts who are inspired to work on these ethical aspects.

The series turned out to be more fun-filled yet one of the most informative series to help young researchers, students, and future iGEM teams to understand the importance of knowing ethics to modulate their projects and ideas.

The sessions were honoured by the presence of Dr Sivakumar A, Mr. Mayank Sharma, Dr Nirmala Krishnamurthy, and Dr Vijayalakshmi Subramanian, who spoke about their experience and the importance of understanding ethics.

The team released the compiled material on youtube to ensure the maximum accessibility of the material.
