HBUT-China -> SZPT-CHINA
On July 8th, during the joint exchange meeting of six universities hosted by our team, it was lucky to find that SZPT-CHINA team wants to synthesize glutathione in Gluconacetobacter hansenii ATCC53582 using synthetic biology. This had many similarities with our team's project. Therefore, based on the common purpose of synthesizing an antioxidant, we reached a further collaborative exchange with the SZPT-CHINA team.
On July 14th, we met with all SZPT-CHINA team members online and reached an in-depth cooperation exchange. In this meeting, we again introduced each other's projects in detail, further understood each other's project details, and made some suggestions and ideas about allergies of glutathione in cosmetic products.
Due to the epidemic, our iGEM team had a two-year break in the middle, and we always had doubts about the iGEM competition rules, judging requirements. During the meeting, Zhibing Mai, the captain of SZPT-CHINA team, shared their previous competition experience and some ideas they wanted to implement, and also carefully answered many doubts for us, and suggested some tips.
At the end of the meeting, we confirmed our intention to become a partnership and have had weekly online meetings.
On August 11th, we joined SZPT-CHINA team to go to Hechi, Guangxi to inspire children's interest in synthetic biology by drawing. It could help laying the foundation for the future of synthetic biology.
On August 6th, we helped the SZPT-CHINA team to create a poster for the lecture "Something about Synthetic Biology".
Model
In the regular meeting on August 11th, we learned that the SZPT-CHINA team had no idea about Model, so we shared with them what we had learned about Model, such as growth prediction model and gene pathway expression model for the project. In the regular meeting on August 25th, we proposed two ideas, one is the model for impact factors and the binding of proteins, and the other is the model for the drugs binding to cells. We also suggested the SZPT-CHINA team to start by finding relevant literature and shared the modeling software Design Expert.
Contribution
We helped SZPT-CHINA team to finish the design of the web interface of the word book, hoping to bring some help to the subsequent iGEMers in professional English.
On August 6th, SZPT-CHINA team invited us to hold a lecture "The World of Synthetic Biology" with a total of 300 participants to popularize the knowledge of synthetic biology to university students. After the meeting, they invited us to participate in a five-university exchange meeting to help us get more project feedback.
Contribution
On July 14th, the SZPT-CHINA team invited us to co-produce a Chinese-English translation of synthetic biology-related vocabulary book, which was finally finalized on October 1st, with over 499 words. The SZPT-CHINA team also created a cellphone app and a web page, to make it easier to be used.
