“Your education effort is amazing! You can seriously consider publishing your "Bert"! I really like how you came up with the idea of softening hard water. You provided a great example on learning from nature or repurposing a naturally existing process can solve difficult problems in artificial circumstances!” ~ Judge 2
Congrats on your first time in iGEM! I really liked how you came up with the idea, of trying to solve a local problem and then finding a solution based on what is found in nature. Well-thought-out! Your wiki was really easy to follow and overall you did well characterizing your proteins, especially with the electron microscopy. ~ Judge 6
The project is fascinating and addresses a real-world problem. It became very interesting how you were able to merge synthetic biology into the solution. "It would have been great to consider what other existing technologies are currently being used to address the same problem. The clarity there would help to give a picture of the competitiveness of the solution." ~ Judge 3
The team chosed a very relevant problem for their community to tackle: hard water that affects the lifespan of appliances and the standard treatment brings undesired unsustainable problems. The rationale of the proposed solution is sound, based on synthetic biology principles and they made good use of human practices in order to improve upon their original idea. ~ Judge 5
I would like to see the team build off this idea in the future and further explore product development and commercialization. But first it will be necessary to define quantitative metrics for success... how well must Calcifena work in order to compete with conventional ion exchange products?

The problem and possible solution presented by the team seemed to me to be very novel and with a great perspective for future development.
Their own research work gave them their answers, their idea is very original but the applicability should be rethought, it is not simple or very user friendly to have a biological filter.
