2022 Science Symposium with Wright State University

The 2022 Science Symposium was hosted by the Wright State University iGEM team on September 30 in which both our team and The United States Air Force Academy participated. The purpose of this meetup was for each school to practice giving their project presentations in front of other iGEM teams to prepare for the Jamboree. After each presentation, questions and comments were given by the other participating schools. Hearing outside perspectives from people that are also involved with iGEM was extremely valuable to making both our project materials and our presentation better. Several very important things for us to consider were brought to our attention after we gave our presentation. This included looking into techno-economic analysis to improve our human practices and potentially investigating the binding affinity and concentration of our expressed protein, among other useful advice.

University of Michigan

The virtual meeting with Michigan, in which we both gave project presentations and discussed the successes and challenges within our respective projects, was held on October 6. After working to address the comments and questions given to us during the Wright State meetup, it was a great opportunity to go through another round of feedback to further prepare our team to give a great presentation during the jamboree. Michigan’s project had a large focus on molecular modeling, and receiving advice on how our project could benefit from similar methods was greatly beneficial.
