Phage: what we knew

• Phage are very specific to their individual host ensuring no broad-host microbiome problems.
• Ubiquitous and natural bacteria killers making them cheap and easy to use.
• Useful against drug-resistant pathogens.

Understanding the problems

• Phage are less efficient than other biocontrols like the aforementioned pesticide or antibiotics leading to poor robustness.
• Phage specificity leads to the need of specialized cocktails for complex infections, especially in human phage therapeutics.
• Uncertainty in the type of phage and possibility of lysogenic phage reduce the viability of possible therapeutics.
