Phage: what we knew
Phage are very specific to their individual host ensuring no broad-host microbiome problems.
Ubiquitous and natural bacteria killers making them cheap and easy to use.
Useful against drug-resistant pathogens.
Understanding the problems
Phage are less efficient than other biocontrols like the aforementioned pesticide or antibiotics leading to poor robustness.
Phage specificity leads to the need of specialized cocktails for complex infections, especially in human phage therapeutics.
Uncertainty in the type of phage and possibility of lysogenic phage reduce the viability of possible therapeutics.
