Weeding warrior in your area!
Reduce pesticide pollution
The use of chemical herbicides has put great pressure on the global ecological environment
Studies have shown that current herbicides have potential threats such as easy resistance and carcinogenesis, causing great trouble to biodiversity and human health
The efficiency of existing herbicides is not high, and more innovative and efficient products should be proposed

To solve the above problems, a group of comrades who love the environment of the earth becomes weeding warriors, hoping to provide valuable new ideas and solutions to the world through their own wisdom.

The weeding warriors offer an environmentally friendly biofertilizer that attempts to solve this problem through synthetic biology. The team built an engineered E. coli that can produce a new herbicide, aspartic acid and extracellular polysaccharide (EPS), under blue light, and release it into the soil in a controlled manner at a high temperature of 42 ° C, avoiding overuse of herbicides and possible residue, while promoting the water retention and sand consolidation of EPS.

weapon consists of a proplasmid that converts glucose into a key precursor, GPP, and a multifunctional plasmid that synthesizes herbicides and EPS under the control of blue-light commonly used in the greenhouse.

At the same time, the team's think tank pondered the question: HOW should the product be released once it has been successfully synthesized? Does constant bacterial growth pose new problems to the soil environment? From these new problems, we successfully designed circuits for our engineered cells to lyse herbicide releasing and expressing EPS of lytic genes at high temperatures above 42 ° C. With the sun shining. About 10% of the engineered bacteria will escape the lysis process and recover, facilitating a new round of controlled production and release of herbicides and EPS.

Together, the weeding warriors have done a remarkable job with their intelligence and passion, sharing their work with the world, drawing attention to environmental issues, and using synthetic biology to make a difference.
