  • Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Martin Hausmann: Professor Hausmann hosted us in his lab and did not only provide us with all the lab material but also with his knowledge and experience vital for the development of our cell assay protocol and analysis.
  • Kenny Jungfer, Ph.D. candidate: Kenny instructed us throughout the whole project. He provided the group with protocols, trained them in practical steps, and gave them feedback on their experimental designs. He also explained how to analyze raw data in Excel and how to design primers.
  • Cauã Westmann, Ph.D. candidate : Cauã supervised the plasmid designs and corrected them when necessary. Furthermore, he gave feedback on Lea's data analysis in R-Studio and helped improve the graphs and plots. Cauã was also very helpful when problems arose, responding to the members' questions and he contributed with lab material needed for the workshops.
  • Fabian Ackle, Ph.D. candidate: Fabian shared his lab experience and supervised the team, providing help with protocols, troubleshooting and experimental design. He was indispensable to the project's success, as he would always kindly make time to lend a hand wherever necessary.
  • Jennifer Earp, Ph.D. candidate: Jennifer supervised the team in the Seeger lab throughout the project, sharing protocols and helping solve problems as they arose. Her resourcefulness propagated the project's progress, as she would always be available for support or questions.
  • Jan Dernič, Ph.D. candidate : Jan supported us from the beginning with the project and experimental design. He helped with the cell assay graphs and the whole team always highly appreciated his feedback.
  • Dr. Pedro Imenez Silva: Pedro supported us during our idea-finding phase and contributed considerably to the advancement of our project development with his input and expertise.

Human practices

  • Prof. Cyril Zipfel: Professor Zipfel supported the team in administrative organisation related to our project.
  • Shila Schneider: Shila's experience was essential during the later stages of our project when we started thinking about bringing our project drug to the market. Together, we discussed research and development of a therapy, preclinical research and clinical trials. Further, she could give us insight into the burdens that are associated with each of these steps.
  • Christian Moser: Christian introduced us to Intellectual Property protection and researching patents.
  • Elke Zappe: Elke introduced us to essential entrepreneurship concepts related to the market application of our project. Further, she recommended talking to various experts, which was especially useful during our initial entrepreneurship and implementation efforts.
  • Dr. Andreea Loredana Cretu: Together with Elke, Andreea helped us understand the market and implementation field for biomedical applications.
  • Pharmabiome: Pharmabiome provided us with protocols and knowledge on the lyophilization process for our engineered chassis. Further down the line, questions about entrepreneurship came up, which they could answer adeptly.
  • Bruno Giardina: As the president of Crohn Colitis Switzerland, Bruno helped us reach out to patients to establish our IBDN cohort study and recruit participants for our patient workshops.
  • Timothy Kurrer: Tim introduced our team to the iGEM journey. With his experience from previous participation in the competition, he could always answer questions and was always available when we needed help. Additionally, he supported us with planning and hosting the high school workshops.
  • IBD Net Gastroenterologists: Gastroenterlogists members of IBD Net, have answered our implementation questions and shared their clinical experiences with us.
  • Dr. med Annalisa Cavallo: Annalisa helped us understand the clinical procedures for prescribing biologics therapies by explaining the different tests required. She also discussed with us the burden on the Italian healthcare system.
  • Dr. med. Giuseppe Curcio: Giuseppe answered questions related to the clinical management of IBD patients and helped us understand how therapies are priced in Switzerland.
  • IBD patients: 615 IBD Patients helped us understand what living with IBD means by participating in our electronic survey. Further, they engaged in discussions and answered questions fundamental to our project's development.
  • Marcel Brunner: Marcel is an IBD patient who kindly agreed to have a personal interview and tell us more about his experiences with IBD.
  • Dr. Cristina Manatschal: Cristina helped us with the administrational work related to our patient workshops and provided us with all the logistics we needed to conduct our workshops.
  • Dr. Séverine Lobet: Séverine helped us prepare the laboratory experiments for the patient's workshops.
  • Dr. Florence Bourquin: Florence helped us equip the laboratory for the experiments and provided the necessary reagents for our workshops.

Dry lab

  • Prof. Dr. med. Dr. phil. Gerhard Rogler: Prof. Dr. Dr. Rogler met with the dry lab team to discuss the model as well as inflammatory bowel disease. He helped our dry lab not only understand the limitations and potentials of our own model, but also the status quo of IBD medications and research.
  • Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Martin Hausmann: Prof. Dr. Hausmann met with the dry lab team to discuss the model. Similarly to our meeting with Prof. Dr. Rogler, the exchange was extremely insightful and helped us pick the right parameters.
  • Hielke Walinga: He took a lot of time to help Kim set up the wiki to be able to work on it locally and submit the code from sublime text to the gitlab page. Hielke gave her an introduction into web design and took hours out of a busy day just to help us get going with the wiki.
  • Christian Andres Ramos Uria: He was an essential help to dry lab team in building the model and consistently assisted them whenever problems arose. He also offered his mathematical expertise to the team.
