The engineered probiotic platform based on erythritol we constructed can be widely used in future engineered probiotic therapies. Adding erythritol, a safe substitute, can increase colonization time and population density of engineered probiotics. This reduces the cost of engineered probiotic therapies (a single inoculation can last a long time).

At the same time, erythritol based induction system is a safe in vivo induction system, which can control the expression of some exogenous genes in engineered probiotics more systematically.

In addition, we also hope to turn erythritol into a substrate for the production of therapeutic substances. Our SldAB-L-RI pathway can convert erythritol into L-erythrose, a therapeutic substance for lowering blood pressure, which broadens the range of diseases that engineered probiotics can treat.

Moreover, we want to give our engineered probiotics the effect of a health product, we have our probiotics to produce a nutraceutical PQQ, which is an antioxidant.

The popularity of erythritol in foods reflects a growing concern about diet. Our software provides people with good dietary guidelines so that more people can maintain a healthy body.

In conclusion, our platform could safely and effectively solve some of the current problems faced by engineered probiotics, broaden the role of engineered probiotics. We hope our platform could help engineering probiotics therapy to be further applied.
