MicroMurals: Developing an educational tool that intersects synthetic biology and art

Intersecting Synthetic Biology and Art

MicroMurals serves as a new tool to better communicate science through art

We propose a method of combining biofilm proteins with chromoproteins, to create hydrogel-based “microbial paints”

Our hardware and software tools implement these “microbial paints” in an engaging and interactive way: by printing them in customizable designs

We incorporated feedback from stakeholders that varied from artists, to scientists, and even ethics professors.

Through outreach events, we educated the public on how art and science can be combined.

Our team developed resources and events for bio-art as a tool so it can be applied across all age groups and knowledge levels.
