Safety
During the experiment of the IGEM wet team, to ensure the safety of team members and others, each member of the wet team needs to abide by many rules of the laboratory. If they do not follow the rules, it will lead to various accidents, which is a very bad thing for both teachers and classmates. The experiment must be carried out with caution. Misconduct is disrespectful to yourself and your group members. Each of us must follow the following rules of the laboratory to carry out experiments, so here I would like to briefly describe to you some of the many rules of the laboratory. These rules will help you do skillfully in the laboratory and help your team do their work more effectively and properly.
Dress
Reason
When entering the laboratory, every student must wear lab clothes, latex gloves, and masks. The purpose of wearing protection is bidirectional. It not only protects personal safety in experiments but also prevents some interference from some human factors.
Glove
Gloves protect reagents that may do harm to the human body from dropping on the hand and prevent some bacteria on the hand from interfering with the process and accuracy of the experiment. At the same time, it is recommended that every student should find the right gloves and participate in the experiment. Inappropriate gloves will affect the operation of the experiment and lead to the loss of a certain amount of accuracy.
Surgical mask
Each of us must wear a medical mask to do the experiment. If you don't wear a mask, this will cause some toxic gases or liquids to adhere to your face, causing injury or the spread of the virus.
Lab suit
Protective clothing is the most important protective equipment, which prevents most of the protection below the shoulders and above the knees. During the experiment, some harmful materials or some experimental tools that may cause harm to the body should be carefully operated.
Glasses
When it comes to toxic reagents or extremely high or extremely low temperatures, you also need to consider wearing protective glasses. The main thing is to prevent some volatilization or sputtering risks of laboratory machines, resulting in eye injuries.
Shoe
Most of the time, there are no specific protective shoes, but there are important requirements for shoes. If you don't want to be injured, please don't wear sandals, and you must wear socks to prevent experiments accidents. If you knock over some harmful materials from the table and drop them on your feet, you will achieve an injury when wearing inappropriate shoes.
Points to note
Students are not allowed to wear lab suit to go to any non-experimental area. When leaving the laboratory, students need to take off their lab suits and put them in the cupboard. The main purpose is to protect some bacteria from entering the body, or some harmful substances from spreading to the outside world.
Foodstuffs
Students are prohibited from eating and drinking in the laboratory work area. This may lead to the contamination of food and reverse contamination of the experiment. Students are prohibited from bringing any food and beverages into the laboratory workspace and storing them. This will not only take up experimental space but also be more likely to lead to the contamination of experiments and food.
Equipment
Students also need to pay attention to the requirements for personnel and the use of experimental equipment. For example, when some reagents are used, the equipment, for example, when using certain reagents, please take good protective measures, such as nucleic acid reagents. If you accidentally drop the reagents on the worn silicone gloves when transferring the nucleic acid reagent, please immediately replace the silicone gloves and wash your hands since reagents may seep. Entering the skin will cause a certain degree of injury to human tissue. In addition, when using certain equipment, please strictly follow the relevant instructions, such as disinfection buckets for high-temperature disinfection. Due to the high temperature and high pressure, please strictly abide by the usage rules during a certain cooling time and cover it strictly due to the rules.
Rubbish
The main precautions for littering are garbage classification and disposal. The yellow trash can is the trash can during the experiment, and the black trash can is the trash can in ordinary life.
Yellow trash can
1 Liquid trash can

The main components of liquid garbage cans are responsible for discarding the generated waste during the experiment, like liquid materials and some failed products.

2 Solid trash can

Solid-state garbage cans discard solid-state materials or finished products of some waste in some experiments.

3 Waste bins

Waste bins are mainly used for waste products generated during the experiment, such as some damaged blades or the heads of pipette guns.
Black trash can
It is mainly used to discard garbage related to paper towels in daily life.
Emergency
In the process of experiment, we should not only do our own dress protection requirements, but also need to learn methods of dealing with emergencies.
Firefighter
It is mainly responsible for fires caused by accidents such as broken alcohol lamps, which can be extinguished by firefighters.
Sprayer
In the laboratory, there is usually a fixed area to store some equipment for emergency water spraying. For example, an external device is connected to our water pipe. When our eyes are injured, we can urgently rinse our eyes to prevent continued injuries, or there will also be nozzles for emergency showers in fixed areas, mainly to protect against fires on the body or on protective clothing with a large amount of harmful liquid flow.
